So, all these reminiscing threads have me wondering, what stores did you buy your Joes when you were growing up?
We didn't have TRUs yet in St. Louis, all we had were Children's Palace Toy Chest Sears Kreske's - now known as Kmart |

Most of mine came from wal mart. Around christmas time, my mom would order joes from jc penny and sears. One time i skipped school and went with my mother and her friend to some little podunk out of the way drugstore in some really small town, and there was one of the figures that had eluded me, Destro. They had about 10 of him.

I'm 32 and I can't remember a time when their wasn't a Toys R Us. Sears was good, we also had Montgomery Wards, Ames, Caldor, BTW I live in MD and most of these stores are long gone now.
But the absolute best store for Joes was Children's Palace. I remember the end cap being stocked from what looked like floor to ceiling with single carded Joes. There was no way I could reach the top and the lady (every store employee was "The Lady" when I was little) had to bring out that cool ladder on wheels to help me. |

I bought the majority of mine at Richman Gordman. I'm not sure how widespread that chain was. It's known as Gordman's now...
My mom worked there, and so I got her 20% employee discount. That worked out nicely. One week's allowance bought a Joe or SW figure, plus change left for a comic or gum somewhere else. |

Thinking about how a whole aisle used to be lined with joe items makes me sad.

Child World or TRU...Child World was a chain IIRC...the front of the building looked like a castle for some reason. Oh, apparently CW and CP are the same...from MA, too.

The first Joe I bought was at a Kmart in Houston on I-45 south inside of 610. I don't know the cross street but near fingers furniture I think. I distinctly remember get a Grunt and VAMP. My sister was there and parents. Funny the stuff you can recall. I think I was 9 or 10 I guess.
