BTW, the Tomahawk is not even in the ball park as the Chinook. A very little of research would show that it is modeled after the Boeing CH-46 Sea Knight. In which, is more than half the length of the Chinook at 45.8ft compared to 98.10ft. The AH-64 Apache is bigger than the CH-46 Sea Knight at 58.17ft. So, yes, the Tomahawk is in play in that scenerio that you provided.

Yeah, I completely forgot about the CH-46. You're probably right about that... still. That Pavehawk is huge. I'm not arguing the merits of whether or not the 1/18th scale stuff is awesome (which they are quite awesome), just that it has a tendency to be fragile and expensive (initial cost and storage).

i quick look around the net shows me that some of the 1/18 vehicles (hummers etc..) are actually quite affordable and in the same price ranges of the Joe vehicles. Im sure not evryone can afford the Jets but the small vehicles still blow the Joe vehicles out of the water in terms of quality and coolness. also, you dont get none of that spring loaded crap with the 1/18 vehicles

I have a couple (literally 2) 1:18th vehicles, a Humvee and a little bird, but I am not nearly as attached to them as I am to Joe vehicles.
For me, collecting Joes is not just about collecting "military figures." It is about the characters and stories and childhood attachment and nostalgia and so on, and I don't think Joe figures always look that great when paired with super realistic 1:18th vehicles. They tend to contrast, highlighting the idiosyncrasies of the Joe figures, especially the less realistic figs like BBQ, Bazooka, and Spirit. Many of these 1:18 vehicles are fantastic, no doubt. But they don't pique my interest the same way many Joe vehicles do. And making the Joes and their rides too realistic would, in my opinion, rob them of their charm and personality.

Aside from the price and the size, which are very much factors despite the OP trying to handwave them away, I think you sum it up, Irid70.
G.I. Joe isn't super-realistic, most of those 1:18 vehicles are. It just doesn't really "feel" right combining the two. The 1:18 stuff I've seen is plenty awesome, but it feels like a "real world military toy" not a "G.I. Joe" toy. While there may be some compatibility, it's basically like collecting an entirely different line. |

I've never gotten a sense of resistance towards other 1:18 scale military toys. I've seen nothing but love for them since I first started posting here. So much so that I was influenced into picking up a couple of Tanks and an Apache from Target before we starting getting 25th vehicles. Of course after bringing the Apache home I realized it was way too big and was forced to trade it. I still have the tanks. One was a bradley which I customized into a Crimson CAT, and the other was turned into a Modern-era MOBAT with the help of some repro-stickers.

I don't understand why valid reasons for not collecting 1:18 scale stuff are considered excuses. Personally I find things like the BBI Hornet (which I own) too bulky to fit in with the JOES. The other reason I don't really care for 1:18 scale stuff is those vehicles are not JOE vehicles. If I'm gong to spend $200 on a jet, I will opt for eight JOE jets at Target over one that is too large to fit in.
Case in point: JoeDios - JoeDios Dioramas, Photos, collections, Reviews & Files - What the hell do you mean, "out of scale!?" Too damn big to integrate.

Joe fans truly appreciate and are excited over 1:18, at least for the most part. As market dynamics change, so do minds change, as can happen with Hasbro. The following two threads show most Tankers exuberantly excited over JSI's big F14 Tomcat versus another thread where most Tankers showed a "not-so-positive" excitement {or lack thereof} for the new smaller Night Raven "SNR".
