I bought the set in Walmart when it first came out. I have looked in several of these closeout stores but all I find is sets 1 & 2 and alot of SRO sets.

I got two at Marshall`s ( in Louisville )for $14.99 back at the end of May.
I have not seen them since, but I do still see the other 3 easier to find sets. ( POD, Rev. Of Cobra, Mass Device ) I feel your pain Mindbender, I panicked back at the end of April and paid $70.00 for my first set. Guess I should have just been patient, but I think finding the two so cheap was Karma kinda evening out things . Last edited by boomer77; 02-13-2010 at 04:21 AM.. |

collectors are their own worst enemy. I'm not stating that as an attack, its just that we make it worse on ourselves. we find something that we know is popular and we buy them all because we know that there will be a time when we can't find something, and others will and want market value for those, so it provides us with trade bait that allows us to swap market values at retail prices.
that's why there is nothing to complain about. it all evens out in the end for the most part. I got my Best of '80s set by trading an extra MOTUC Skeletor I had ordered back when they came out. That was a fair trade for both involved, in terms of what both of us had paid at retail and current market value. However, why would it have been any different if I had sold that Skeletor for $80 (or whatever it goes for) so that I had the money to buy a Best of '80s set on Ebay? I wonder how many of these "guys out for the good of the community" would put their money where their mouths are, and sell (as just one example) a MOC convention Roddy Piper figure for what they paid back in '07... I'm all for hooking up fellow collectors when I can (which is hard, being in Canada where we don't get much of anything), but there's nothing wrong with bartering a little bit at market prices to help fund your own collection.

If anyone finds sets 3-5 and can get extras I would love to buy one of each for $20 - $25 bucks plus shipping. Please PM me. I check every Marshalls and TJ Maxx near me (there are 5 total) every week and have found NOTHING for the last two months. I even check in other cities when I am out of town for business.

Just an FYI to all (Including you, MD):
In a perfect world, we'd all hook each other up. We're all all a part of this Community and should treat each other like neighbors. CBR hit it right on the head: We, as collectors, buy stuff with the intent on trading it....and unfortunately, a lot of people use the secondary market as the "starting point" for pricing. Granted, this doesn't hold true for all... The problem comes in when people who are used to getting a hook up see someone trying to sell something at market value. Wackiness ensues (ie - flaming, bashing, cries of scalper, etc)....and it serves no purpose here. The best way to show someone that their price is a bit steep is to stay away from their items for sale, period. If people want eBay prices, they should sell their item on eBay. But the bottom line: None of us should expect a hook up. It is what it is. If "you" do receive a hook up, continue trading with that individual. |

The only thing I found at Marshalls was a bunch of clothes from 1997 that no one wanted
