I know it is unlikely that Hasbro will revisit characters done by the club. I figure these are ones deemed obscure enough to not appeal to enough consumers for retail.
But what if Hasbro later wants to do retail versions of the most popular characters like Big Boa and Cover Girl? Do they have an agreement to never do these characters (which seems a bit extreme for licensing characters for any franchise) or is there a specified period of time that Hasbro agrees to not use them? Assuming Hasbro just has to wait a certain number of years to use them, they could use this as market research. They could easily look at aftermarket sales of the club figures to see which are most in demand and make new modern versions of them (not exact copies of the club versions). |

It's the other way around. The Club won't do figures Hasbro has already done. Hasbro owns the property. They can do whatever they want. Hasbro already did the 50th Leatherneck after the Club did Mission Brazil II Leatherneck. Both figures are updates of Leatherneck v1.

There's a few examples of hasbro doing figures done by the club, but with different builds or paint apps. This year's SAW viper and last year's Hit n Run being prime examples.
The idea is that the club picks figures hasbro had no intention of making, but as noted by blackrazor, hasbro can do what they want. |

Yeah, like they said, Hasbro can do whatever figure they damn well please, but there are plenty of reasons they won't reproduce a club figure verbatim. Not the least of which being they'd probably prefer to not piss off a fanbase grossly overpaying for "exclusive" figures. Honestly, the only club figure I'd like to see Hasbro reproduce is Footloose. He's just too big a character (to me) to be a club exclusive.

I don't know how much they consider the fanbase outrage for making a cheaper version of a sought after figure? They will just change the paint apps enough to assure they are different. I figure they had a few years of not catering to the fans but the club always does. So they see the popularity of the clubs choices, and realize they missed a few. I mean I don't think they will make versions of club created characters (Demolishor) and no one wants them to. But They should have rights to every character Hasbro ever created and mass produced the hell out of them.(Repeater, Psyche-Out, Spearhead) I am not going to be mad if they make a Darklon for everyone even though I paid close to $200 for the Two-pack. I have enjoyed them for years now. I think the club needs to stick with the truly obscure and foreign interpretations and their own original creations. (Night-Stalkers, Crimson Vipers) Their offerings are too mainstream and thus overpriced for what should enjoy a mass release (Sgt Slaughter)

Anyway, I do believe a large segment of collectors would be pissed if Hasbro were to produce a previously exclusive club offering that was exactly like the club version. Some like exclusivity & feel it's an important part of their collection. Also, Slaughter wasn't a club exclusive, IIRC, but a Hasbro SDCC exclusive and it was limited in number because Hasbro couldn't secure rights from the WWE (or whatever) for mass production. |

Oh yeah thats a good point. Hasbro has their own "exclusives" with ComicCon. There is a significant after market mark up on those items. How many of those SDCC items do they generally produce? would that count as a exclusive? I wish we would get more 7 pack exclusives.
Yeah Slaughter isn't club property although they did a Renegades set a few years ago. I know they will never do a verbatim version club figures, but I can see them doing better versions of club figures and crappy versions too. Club versions tend to be better. Hit&Run, Star-Duster, But they haven't overlapped too often in the modern era.

What about 50th Hit n Run? Wasn't that head produced by the club for the nocturnal fire set and reused for the FSS, then used by Hasbro. I would have thought the club would have exclusive access. It seems for every rule we hypothesize, there's an exception.

I think that head was first shown on the concept case HnR figure. So that would be a Hasbro sculpt. The question would be if Hasbro actually made the tooling for that head or if the Club tooled the head from a Hasbro prototype sculpt.

Oh, yeah. I dont think it would matter who tooled it, if hasbro designed it. But you're right. I forgot that was a concept figure.
