We all gripe on a daily basis about Hasbro screwing us over, Hasbro's quality sucking, Hasbro this, Hasbro that. Most of the time, these are rational, justified complaints. I just wanted to point out that maybe they're spreading themselves too thin, because it's easy to forget how big a corporation they are. It's no wonder they barely give us the time of day. We see GI Joe as a huge world, but to Hasbro it's a small blip on their roster. Here's the list of all the brands Hasbro makes toys for, according to HasbroToyShop.com. Note that this includes not only GI Joe, but every Marvel toy out there right now, every Star Wars toy, all the Transformers, a good portion of Disney, not to mention all the girls toys, all the video games they do, and almost every board game you ever heard of.

Good point, Foolproof!
That is some kind of list. I think it's easy to forget just how much Hasbro has on it's plate. Certainly not defending some of their silly decisons, but they have more than just G.I.Joe to worry about.
Cobra has won. The Battle is over. Or is it?

-Some- of the complaints are justified. Duke arms, diaper crotches, arms that don't even bend 90 degrees at the elbow, overuse of the same head molds for various characters, and low production of particular items (specifically the Best of the 80's pack) and things of that nature are valid, justified complaints.
But the fact is without Hasbro we wouldn't have gotten the last two years of 25A/Modern Era product at all.
Heck, without Hasbro this website wouldn't even exist, as there wouldn't have been a G.I. Joe in the first place.

Crazy eh? Yeah, they're huge alright.
You do have a point, but GI Joe should be one of their "flagship brands". Very few other toy lines have attained the status GI Joe has in popular culture. Not everyone knows who Cobra Commander is, but everyone knows "GI Joe", whether it be the stuff we all love to collect or the old 12" military figures from the '60s. When it comes to action figures/dolls, the only comparable line is (arguably) Mattel's Barbie. I mean, there are the "key lines" from the '80s - RAH, Transformers and MOTU (and to a lesser extent Thundercats, MASK, and maybe one or two others) - but GI Joe as a whole spans generations.
(BTW, I'm not counting SW because, being a line based on a series of movies, I'm not sure it's comparable. For example, when someone says "GI Joe", 99% of the time people think of a toy, but when you say "Star Wars", 99% of the time people think of the movie. Know what I mean?)
Anyway, maybe I'm making too much of this. It certainly doesn't sell as well as Transformers or Star Wars nowadays, so I'm sure it's not as important to Hasbro as other lines that make more money, for the moment anyway. It's funny, when I read the title of this thread, I thought of it more as Hasbro's spreading itself too thin with regards to the Joe line specifically - as in they're putting out too much product too quickly, and that's why we see figures and vehicles that seem "rushed" (ie: all the lazy frankenjoes, crappy repaints, etc).
Please check out http://hmcsgreatadventure.com/ - it's a mix of sci-fi, humour and the friggin' Royal Canadian Navy, eh!

I always thought games like Risk, Axis & Allies, Connect Four, etc were all produced by Parker Brothers. I don't see how they are stretching themselves too thin making board games when they have one subsidiary that handles all of their board gaming products. I also fail to see the connection between Hasbro spreading itself thin and Nintendo DS and Playstations 2 & 3. Hasbro lends it's licenses to software developers but they are by no means working on their own game software. So how does this spread them too thin? Oh and I have to seriously wonder if they have the same team that works on TF and GI Joe toys also working on My Pretty Pony, Playskool, etc. Many large corporation have specific teams that specialize in developing products for target demographic groups (i.e. boys toys, girls toys, baby toys, toddler toys, etc). If Hasbro follows that model then they would have a single group or multiple work groups set up to develop GI Joe, TF, SW and other "boys" toys. So, again, I am not sure how we can say they're spreading themselves too thin. They make toys, that's what they're in business to do and just looking at the shelves in any toy aisle you can tell that they're pretty damn good at what they do.

I can understand that they are making a bunch of stuff and therefore might not have the time to devote itself fully to our nerd obsessions. But it still does not belittle the lack of Best of the 80's and the whole repaint debacle.
but on the plus side, they are just toys and I probably won't die if I don't have what I want.
Punk rock, Horror movies,Hasbro, and MY SENSE OF HUMOR ruined my life.
