I need a overall vote gang. I have DVD pack 5 "Best of the 80's" MISP and I am at a crossroads. My job ended in May. My wife's a teachers at the local university and she is suppose to teach summer classes. Her classes were canceled for the summer. Money is a little tight for us til fall semester. I have a bunch of stuff to sell to help out for the summer. I have this DVD pack. I really dont want to sell it, but on the other hand the extra cash would be helpful. What should I do??

A hard choice. They are toys after all but that set is very rare. I don't envy your choice.

Sell it. Odds are at some point you can get it back, right now having the cash is probably the best bet.

I think you should keep it. You will probably have a hard time getting another one even if things get better. Most likely you won't get a HUGE amount for it...not sure how much people are paying nowadays, but I know mine has more personal value than dollar value...unless it was worth an entire car payment. just my opinion

I would try to hold out as long as possible. Something may come up that you get other work possibly. If things get too tight though you may have to give up the dream of a Best of 80's pack. Hopefully things will get better for you. Figure you will get about $70 after e bay fees for the set.

If you NEED money, sell it. Rarely do toys hold their value nowdays. Even Yellow Stalker has dropped in price. I sold mine before it peaked (but still up there) and I haven't looked back.
After all, they are just toys |

I don't know man, I keep thinking this will start showing up in greater numbers once (or during, perhaps) the movie stuff all gets released.
That may just be me hoping, since I don't have one yet, but I can't see why this thing would have been produced in such low numbers. We do know that Hasbro is holding back a lot of product right now, though...

Really, though, if cash is tight I would sell it if it will help. Don't sell it if it won't amount to anything in the big picture though (You'll most likely spend more trying to get it back). |

Personally I would sell it if my cash flow hit that low. The first thing to go would be my collection. Like you said though you have a bunch of other stuff to sell, so you might want to go that route first and then if things get worse sell the Best of 80's.
I feel for you man. I think a lot of us in the near future may be in the same shoes soon. I am just thankful I still have my job. |

my gf and i are having slight money problems. but down the road things could get worse. THAT's why i'm NOT selling what I have.
also... this stuff is really for my son when he's older (assuming said 'get worse' scenario doesn't rear itz head). here's another way to look at it... are you holding on to that DVD pack because it is rare or because you actually LIKE it. I only collect the Joe stuff I like.. if itz rare... and I get a hold of it for a good price i sell it and buy what i like. OR like you said sell other stuff instead. i've sold half a dozen dvd box sets WITH scratches and made like $200 easy. people actually buy scratched dvd sets on ebay. when i saw that i could get $20 for a scratched Gossip Girl season one... you can bet i let that thing go. sold two scratched seasons of Lost for $30... if I hadn't wasted time selling them at used dvd stores for less than half that... I'd have enough to buy that dvd pack from you. maybe you don't have to sell that pack... sell a bunch of other stuff instead.
