Hello,
I just have a quick question someone in the know could, I hope, answer. In terms of compatibility of accessories and consistency for display purposes, is there any major difference between the 25th Anniversary line of Figures and the 50th? For example would a 25th Ann. Cobra Viper look pretty much the same as a 50th Ann. figure if they were standing next to each other on a display shelf? Thanks for any help you could give me. |

Most of the 50th figures are an upgrade compared to the 25th builds. The 50th Viper is much better than the 25th Viper as the legs and arms are bulkier, and it has proper wrist articulation. The 25th Viper wrists are just bad when it comes to articulation.
The 50th storm shadow and snake eyes to many are considered the best versions of the characters. Now the 52nd IG is the same as the 25th IG, but a heavy gunner IG version is a bulkier, heavier version that was released last year. Most of the 52nd figures are PoC or later styled.

Those 25 years between the two lines went by so fast.

IMHO, yes they can be displayed together and certain things like backpack pegs and footpegs are basically the same. As others have said, the design has improved, more articulation, better proportions. But, it is largely a matter of taste. Each line has some gems and some lumps of coal.

One good thing about those Vipers for example is that the 25th is the better representation of the classic 86 Viper while the 50th (and POC/30th) Viper is a new more modern day interpretation. I think they both display well together. Especially if you have the 5 pack or Hall of Heroes 25th Viper with the fixed hands.
Some of the 25th figures are just crude now compared to the newer figures, like the old 5 pack Duke for example. But myself I think some of the 25th figures like Snake Eyes, General Hawk and battle armor Cobra Commander still hold up well. Look at the BATS, Hasbro is still using the 25th mould even in the 50th line. That is a good example of one that has held up really well. For me the ones I have the biggest trouble displaying together are the 25th Cobra Troopers and Officers with the POC/30th/50th Cobra Trooper. there is just such a huge different between them. But it's all up to you and what you like, they are your toys so do what you enjoy. |

I pretty much agree with Trigue. Some of the 25th figures hold up better than others, true, but personally, I think even the weakest ones are still worth owning, if for no other reason than variety--and many of them do hold up just fine. Plus, there are so many 25th figures that got produced that many of them are not particularly expensive, making them a good jumping-off point for a new collector, or a good way to bolster a collection started with one of the newer lines.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.
Sounds like the best way for me to bolster a 50th Anniversary collection would be to start looking at 30th/POC figures that might serve as army builders and pick my spots with interesting 25th Anniversary figures |
