I think had Renegades been offered on a more accessible network for kids, it may have had a chance. Kids like convenience, and the HUB network was unfortunately not available in a lot of households because it was considered a "premium" channel option. I don't know if another cartoon is in the works, but relying solely on big screen to sell toys is a tough venture for Hasbro in deed! So...where is the line headed? Truthfully, only the big wigs at Hasbro really know and they aren't sharing with the likes of us. This is a crossroads for our beloved line of Joes, and we are one bad decision away from this line going away forever. With FUNPUB on it's last legs and the retail options getting thinner and thinner each year, I think it's obvious that very little effort is really being focused on the Gi Joe brand as a stand alone line anymore. If anything, Hasbro will try to merge universes and see where that takes them. We have to be prepared for a change in direction that many of us may not necessarily agree with. GI Joe is really the last line of FA 3.75" toys out there and it's becoming painfully obvious that today's kids could really care less about the articulation of a toy if they cannot connect with them on another level. No showing at Toy Fair (outside of Loyal Subjects), no word of anything at JOECON and here we are again...wondering. 35 years is a good run for a toy line and would be considered a success by most toy companies. Let's see what is to come, and let's hope that the candle is not burning out for this line of toys.

35 years is pretty outstanding. There's so much older product to go buy however and I don't think I will ever get it all. I hope at least they put out a few products through the Club or Con exclusives. We'll see although my money is on us getting something instead of getting nothing as many predict.

Every year this thread is done. We got nearly 50 figures this year between the FSS, Con and Toys R Us. 50. That's nearly more figures than in the first three years of the line altogether. As long as it makes money, Hasbro will continue to support. Now, if we want this to continue after FP's license expires, and for it to get better, we need a consortium of the guys at MGR and a kickstarter push. Think about it, they have the expertise to do this, and with the license they could REALLY expand their hold on the AF market. Fans buy in for $500 each and then own a share of the profits from the licensing, with the share quantity being driven by the number of shares bought and the percentage of profits capped at say 50% of profits. This ensures there is a line in the utmost of capable hands, and MGR gets a groudnswell of non-traditional marketers who are literally invested in the health of the product. Then a portion of the profits come back to the fans that are buying the figures, almost like a rebate, and MGR get's to expand their empire and reduces risk on the venture in exchange for a large cash influx.

With Revolutionaries going on in the comics, I think Hasbro has a real opportunity to unleash a reinvented GI Joe. They all use pretty sci-fi weapons now, so I don't think they'll incite any anti-gun controversies. And with the more superheroey designs (Action Man, Helix, etc), we should get some pretty unique looking action figures that tie into the mainstream Joe media. I say go for it! But hey, that's just me! ;)

We got 2 or 3 figures this year, a bunch of repackaged figures that were released several years ago without even repainting them, and the club FSS. BBTS is stuck with a lot of them, because everyone already army built them years ago. TRU refused to even let Hasbro do a vehicle this year because the previous years vehicles didn't sell well at all. Again, because they were jsut re-releases of vehicles that have been done to death over the past few years.
A copperish orange and bright green HISS tanks, bright blue Snow Cat and the pack in figures were all pretty bad and lack luster. Atleast the FOE Striker had enough extras and upgrades to warrant it's reissue. The figures mostly had as bad paint colors as the vehicles. The only really good figure with all the vehicles I think was Chuckles, maybe Nightfox if he didn't have those horrible legs. Two Skystrikers at one time, was just a bad idea all around. Atleast the Cobra variant was a interesting idea with the striking cobra hood on it. I would think that most people that wanted a black Skystriker probably already had the club's Night Boomer. Making the vehicles in two packs again didn't help, it seems like alot of people didn't like that. Something else that I think, from reading various forums, is that people didn't like the mixing of vehicles between factions. A HISS tank is one of the most iconic Cobra vehicles, same for GIJoe with the Skystriker and Snow Cat. And on top of it all, they reissued both Skystrikers with the HUD thingy missing. Come on Hasbro, your better than that. Hasbro really missed the boat with the vehicles that year, hell all the 50th vehicles have been a pretty big miss except the Danger at the Docks classic ARAH colors VAMP Mk II and the Wolf. |

That being said, we can't simply praise Hasbro for making "some" effort and not expect "better" effort for out beloved Joes. I get that we received a lot of figures over the last two years and some vehicles as well..but as stated by previous posts, a lot were simply re-issue or repaints. I get that we shouldn't expect new sculpts for each new figure...or should we? We are the consumer buying the product...at some point, with whatever direction Hasbro is taking..they should at least remember which side their bread is buttered on.
