Well I finally managed to get all of the new Joes at two different TRU stores. I am not going to make any comment about the reissues( although some are great like Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow ). But on with the new figures. I will start with the sad and kind of bad.
Duke, you know I really wanted to like this figure; and if he would have had a fully enclosed helmet and was called Eco Warriors Duke I might like him. But the bright yellow and super yellow hair is just off looking. And great accessories, but no where to put them. Not a single holster? I just don't know what to do with this Duke. Grade C- Tombstone, I love that this is a new member of the Cobra hierarchy, but this guy just feels rushed. It is a decent head sculpt on the POC Firefly body. Again decent accessory compliment but no pack, no holsters, ugh! And he really needs a helmet. Over all it is just an okay figure. Grade C+ Shooter, this gal has truly awesome accessories; a knife with a working sheath on her chest web-gear, a fantastic pistol with removable silencer that both fit in her holster! And then that incredible sniper rifle with case! My only complaint is that the scope seems to want to fall off rather easily. Her sculpt is decent( not perfect ), but it is hard getting her arms in a 45 degree angle to hold her rifle. Over all though she is a very nice figure. Grade B+ Falcon, so Night Force Falcon or Wolf Pack Falcon. Why can't we get classic colors Falcon Hasbro!? Still a decent figure with really nice accessories. I just don't know what to do with him. Grade C Outback, at first I was unimpressed with this guy. Then I took his web-gear off and he had his classic "survival" logo on his shirt! That was a nice touch. He has great gear, and plenty of storage. The Retaliation torso is a nice touch that gives him an imposing feel. This is actually one of the surprise figures of the year. I really like it a lot, and plan to customize his web-gear an pack to make him my default Outback. He also holds all of his weapons well! Grade A Stiletto, decent sculpt, nice back story, great gear, a cool figure. The sculpt could have been a little better, but I don't mind what we got. She holds all her weapons well. Nice to have new blood. Grade B+ Heavy Duty, Wow never cared for HD back in 1991 or since for that matter. This figure has changed my mind. Utilizing the superior Retaliation body with an excellent new head sculpt this figure is nearly perfect. Great paint apps, great accessories which he holds well, awesome figure. This is the surprise figure of the year. I absolutely love it, and I recommend it to everyone. Grade A+ I have not yet opened the Cobra Forces 3-pack so I can't comment on them. I would say shooter, and saw viper are the best of the lot. Stiletto, while I wasn't sure by looking at the photos, has surpassed my expectations for lack of a better term as a repaint with new head sculpt. The paint apps are great in hand, and the pictures don't really do her justice. Heavy duty isn't bad, once you remove that terrible vest. If I'm not 100 % thrilled with him, it's because I'm not thrilled with any of the recent figures that have come in that slightly larger scale. Kinda the same way I feel about leatherneck, outback, roadblock, or hung ho. I'm just not in love with the slightly larger build.

Now that I have opened and played with the 2 two packs and the 2 three packs that I wanted, I kinda feel sad that I don't have any Joes to look forward to till sdcc 2017....

Hopefully we are all happy with at least a couple of the figures. Shooter is by far the best of the bunch for me.

Within the restrictions that Hasbro put on the Joe team, this is a top notch lineup. The zombies & SE/SS are proving to be popular once again. The IG/Viper pack is a great army builder set. The new female characters, in the 3 packs, are excellent; and, HD, Tombstone and Stiletto are a welcome addition to the modern era. I'm most impressed with Heavy Duty. He's a great build that doesn't stray too far from the original figure. The addition of the "crossed out Cobras" tattoos put him over the top; as my favorite figure.
I don't get some of the misplaced hatred of the new Duke figure. I think he is a decent enough build to go with the most current Joes. One can never have enough BATS! The SAW Viper is a nice addition, that kind of dipped into the club's territory, but was different enough to justify having both. Outback and Falcon are ok. They've got good builds and accessories, but as someone already mentioned, having Falcon in his original colors would have been nice. If I had to pick a last place figure, it would be Falcon. Like I said earlier, the build and accessories are great. The paint scheme is the head scratcher. After receiving a, now outdated, 25th version, a Marauders version & an FSS Night Force version, it would've been nice to see him in his original color scheme. For those that bash Duke, I get the "do we need another Duke?" argument. But at the same time, do we need another Outback, Falcon, BAT, SAW Viper, SE, SS, IG, Viper, Zombie Viper? |
