Toys R us has been very friendly towards the brand over the years. Target was carrying a lot of exclusives until the rise of Cobra bombed. Then Hasbro and paramount really dropped the ball on the retaliation movie timetable. This is what made retailers not want to carry GI joe. In some ways Hasbro has been it's own worst enemy. They have no vision or direction for this brand right now. I miss hunting Joes at Target and other places.

Mostly, I think Hasbro has no clear direction for G.I. Joe because they've tried multiple things over the past two decades and nothing has been very successful. We can speculate all we want about what would work and pontificate over what Hasbro has done wrong, but the fact remains that if G.I. Joe was a popular brand, other stores besides TRU would be interested in carrying it. |

I don't know what's going on nationally, but here last year with Joe, and continually with the Star Wars 3.75 Black series (Wal-Mart exclusive), a single case will the hit the shelves, then nothing until everyone seemingly has resorted to online retailers (or scalpers), and then three months later, after Christmas, the store is swimming in the stuff.
I feel like our faith as collectors has been shaken such that we're fairly impatient, and with good reason. It TRU would have these things plentiful at first release, instead of a trickle out, I feel like it would benefit everyone. |

I think it would help if Joe went by way of Adventure Team again.
War has become a dirty word in our modern vocabulary. I think if Joe were to take a leave of absence from the military themed stuff for a while, it would open more doors. Kids still want to go on adventures. They still play with action figures... but parents in this day and age are weary of exposing their children to glorified violence. I managed to catch a couple of episodes of the latest incarnation of Thunderbirds. Its wonderful. A team of specialists, tasked with defending and rescuing people in peril. They have no use for guns. But specialized tools are always ready when the situation calls for them. Each team member has their own craft/vehicle. It manages to be smartly written while never trying to talk down to its audience. Another problem I see with Joe, is that the figures and accessories are not exactly aimed at kids anymore. Pieces are tiny and easily lost. The figures themselves are not as sturdy as the original 80s figures. Even with the original points of articulations, the figures still looked ok with the way they held their weapons... WE love the modern figures because of the details, but we're adults... and are more careful with toys. Children like to get down and dirty... As for the 5 Nights at Freddy's stuff. Its a popular game that kids like. Its the "In" thing right now. Its "scary" yet safe enough for kids to play. Kinda like daring a friend to walk thru a cemetery at night. the controls are simple. The jump scares to a kid are highly effective. As far as I can tell, there's no real gore so not too bad as far as content goes. At least not in its first incarnation. Its no different from the gross out stuff I grew up with like Trash bag bunch...

i have to say that I agree with Shipshape1983 here , Adventure Team would be excellent , I would also love to see something along the lines of the original fisher price adventure people done in ME joes style , scrambler rider , rescue helicopter pilot , astronaut etc, how cool would that be ? or if its absolutely got to be military, soldiers of yesteryear , like the old gi joe/action man/action force in 1:18 scale , but for me AT and decent civilian stuff would be cool.

I like that idea. Like a whole line if civilian figures and accessories done with ME articulation. Just think of the dios you could do having army built a ton of civilians. Cobra taking hostages, Zombie Vipers creating havoc, etc. I would buy the hell out of that line!!!

I have to say that I'm glad Gi Joe exists in some form than nothing. I remember after the end of 1994 it was like the entire brand just died. yes I know we had GI joe Extremend Sgt. Savage but it just was not the same to me. I had no interest. The comics ended. the cartoons had long stopped production. and I actually had no clue of some of the repainted figs at TRU in 1997 and 1998. I was lucky enough to get the cobra command team. but anyhow....I don't think the brand in any way or form resonates with kids anymore at all. My nephew would always use the figures as different characters while using them with other toys like the ROC vipers as bad guys for spiderman or the baroness as black widow or black cat. He did however really love a couple of the vehicles. but as far as knowing the brand and mythology he had little interest. I do remember seeing in Walmarts in 2009 the aisles of joe stuff and being in awe as that has not happened in since I was a young child. but personally. the figures are great. they are listening...they are appealing to what collectors want. I am fine with that
