Hey guys,
I had picked up one of the RoC Ice Daggers a few years back when the RoC stuff was going on clearance. Mostly I bought it for the Frostbite figure, but also because I thought a ME snow vehicle would come in handy. Much to my consternation, though, I found that the passenger compartment space was extremely limited--only the most vanilla of figure builds would fit easily. Despite the 2008 stamp on the bottom of the chassis, it just "felt" like it was designed for O-ring figures. Finally, the other night, I did my due diligence and checked the YoJoe archives; and, sure enough, it's a re-re-issue of a GvC era vehicle. Which explains why so few ME figures fit very well--Hasbro simply re-issued it without really ensuring it was a good fit for modern figures. Which is not the first time this has happened, but the design of this particular vehicle makes it all the more annoying than in other past cases. So, my question is--has anybody come up with a good, easy way to modify the passenger compartment so that ME figures fit better? Hopefully something simple and painless--I don't have the skills, balls, or desire to perform heavy customization to the vehicle. Or, have any of the custom casters whipped up an alternate canopy that allows more headroom? That simple change right there would solve a lot of problems. As it is, I can still get some thematically-appropriate figures to fit in the cockpit (like Frostbite himself, if I hike his "skirt" up, or 25th Snow Job, or MTF figures without a lot of pouches on their legs), but it's not nearly as versatile as I would hope for. In any event, it's not a vehicle that sees much action; nor is it something I was actively considering offloading, despite my relative disappointment with it. It mostly just sits on my shelf, and I don't think about it much. But I recently bought an FSS Iceberg off a fellow Tanker, and my attempts to get him into the cockpit made me start thinking about this again. So I thought I'd ask you guys about it.

The front compartment should be fairly easy to modify. The large box shape under the front end is where the feet of the figures are supposed to go. If you can find a small plastic box to cut down and extend that box shape under the nose, you should be good. The rear compartment is another story.

It was a Joe vs Cobra vehicle, not sure why they updated the copyrights. The back storage is confusing. Not sure if it served a initial purpose.

The back compartment does have a seat that extends lengthwise across. It's a bit cramped for bulky figures, but more standard figures fit with no problems. Also a good gear storage compartment.

For some reason, I really like this thing but and was thinking about customizing it into a mobile radar platform.

Oh, and I was digging through my blueprints a couple days ago, and my suspicions were confirmed--although the RoC version of the vehicle is generally known as "Ice Dagger", mine was packaged under the name "Ice Saber" like the GvC versions. Is the RoC version known to have been sold under multiple name variants?

I don't think that's a bad idea at all, as it's already got a little bit of surveillance hardware on it, and customizing it like that would just be taking it to a logical extreme. I think it makes a little more sense to have a dedicated pop-up radar station than a dedicated pop-up turret. With the latter, you just have a slightly cumbersome attack vehicle; with the former, you have a dedicated specialist vehicle.

YOJOE.COM | Ice Sabre When I was eleven could accept Joe toys being nothing but guns (and could not for the life of me figure out why real military vehicles weren't the same) but now pine for more hardware dedicated for detection and targeting now that I know more about the stuff.
