Anyway, I understand that of all the people here on the tank, Compulsive, you don't care if people agree with you or not. I'm just tossing my 2 cents in with everybody else's. I almost didn't post on this thread because, over all, my opinion on Z wasn't that strong, but with the Bludd thing out there, I'm a little more curious about it than before.

Zartan never looked the part of a drednok. He had more of a mercenary look. This is why I don't expect him to dress the same as his minions. His look was more sophisticated along with his weaponry like a mercenary should. Not a chainsaw or flame thrower like the drednoks.
And look at the Crimson twins, their outfit don't anything look like the Crimson Guards. Even Sgt. Slaughter and his maruaders have nothing in common. I can't explain why Zarana and Zandar have the punk look though. Rebeling against their older brother maybe..

I think Zandar, Zarana and even Roadpig and Thrasher's appearances have something more to do with a little movie called The Road Warrior. Were they to be remade in the 25th line, I'd prefer that Zarana look more like she did in the later Marvel comics while Zandar share in his brother's remake and be toned down considerably to fit with the personality on his file card.
As DaViper points out, Zartan's a mercenary first and foremost. Best I recall, his association with the Dreadnoks started out as merely hiring them for distractions. It's not like he founded their group or anything. That he looks and acts nothing like them shouldn't really be a surprise.

I never understood why bikers with Australian accents ended up in the Everglades. Or why a bike gang lives in a swamp.
But then again I don't think the Dreadnoks were ever meant to make sense.

Not only is zartan one of the best figures of the new line, he comes with the best weapon as well (though he should have came with a bow as well but thats what custom jobs are for).

The 'Noks weren't all Australian, either (only Torch was). Ripper is Tasmanian; Buzzer was British; Monkeywrench was Welsh; Thrasher was Belgian; Zanzibar was Caymanian; Road Pig was American; and Gnawgahyde....I think he was suppose to be South African.
As for Zartan, the new 25th version is fine, but I honestly would like to see the old classic version made officially by Hasbro sometime in the future (I'll live with my custom until then). I'd also rather see the other Dreadnoks done in their old designs first before we see new versions of the classic characters. The "Road Warrior" look as somebody else described the Dreadnoks' look still holds up for me today. Of course, this is all my opinion only but I wanted to voice my feelings on the subject.

i guess i'm in the minority when i say Zartan is probably the worst figure to date.
Lady Jaye body sculpt isn't bad at all, just her head is a bit off, like Serpentor's. Zartan from the waist/crotch part down is ok, but that upper body is utter grabage.

One thing is the figure "as an action figure"
Another thing is the figure "as a rendition of the character Zartan"
IMO, it is great as both things.
However, I get the feeling that some get these 2 concepts confused.
I mean... I don't know how right it would be to say the figure sucks because he isn't "the Zartan I know".
I can think of another great example of this:
This is a very solid action figure... but I would never use him as the definitive Destro. He is kinda out of character in that outfit.
Now, with 25th Zartan... I think they've achieved the best of both worlds: an excellent figure and a very good upgrade of the look.

I REALLY hated the initial run of Devil's Due comics. WHen Blaylock was writing they weren't just bad...
The dialogue was pathetic, the stories seemed to come from his backyard fantasies and the art was... Well I'm REALLY glad Tim Seely came along. Brandon Jerwa's writing was more structured. He at least knew the universe. (Blaylock hadn't even read the whole Marvel run before writing). And because of all of this, certain parts of the DDP universe seem like, well, mistakes to me.
I can understand vanity, but JB set his stories in Chicago, tried to rewrite Zartan's whole universe, and even tried to suggest that Zanya would have been concieved when Zartan was "living in Chicago." By my estimates that's about 1985. ANyone remember where Zartan was in 1985, because it sure as HELL wasn't Chicago.
Anyway, the point of this whole rant is that anything relating to the DDP universe should (in the opinion of a large number of fans) be deleted entirely. I think it should simply be peppered in for the line or maybe pushed to the back. The Zartan figure is great. I love old Zartan, and I hope we get him, but I have no problem with a Zartan who wears real clothes. Exposed midriffs are so 1985...
As for Serpentor, he was everything that was wrong with old Joe. He was done well n the comics, but the guy Blaylock brought back from the dead was CLEARLY from the cartoon. At least he gave the Commander his moment to shine. Falling off a waterfall though...
So anyway, I like the DDP Zartan figure. I just would have like him better later.
Some of the DDP designs were really good. I thought Zartan was one of them. Serpentor was kind of lame. Zarana was I think JB's girlfriend. The Storm Shadow was great except for the absurd number of Cobras on him.
Mainframe... sucked. So did their Lady Jaye. So sis ALL of their redesigns on Joes. Stalker, Gung Ho. Lame.
I hope they stick to the 80's cast by and large. I think DDP hurt the Joe universe terribly in it's first 4 years. I think America's elite is good. I also think it's too little too late.
If you want to be REALLY disgusted by the man's vanity- go check out Misplaced and his other comics. His writing is lame. He makes himself and his friends from work the characters. (check photos of his staff against covers and characters.)
On the plus side, he could have a long and distinguished career designing characters for E-surance.com.
