I object to direct rereleases of something that we were guaranteed was exclusive or limited to a certain amount or to arbitrary modifications of those figures that amount to no real improvement or significant change (like changing the colors to a different shade or changing an open hand to a fist or something). If they're willing to use different body and head molds for them then that's okay.
It's fine for people to nominate them in this poll. A poll where they're separated out from the list of all ME figures people want is not helpful, because it doesn't give us any idea how important those remakes are relative to all-new ME characters. Then we can tell how much of a priority those are to people before someone assumes resculpts of them automatically merit production above other figures. I think very few of the actual convention exclusives merit remaking. Aside from Darklon I'm not sure what would. The box set figures like Mission Brazil were not con exclusives, they were sold in the club store as well. But they were limited to a specific amount, announced before the sale started. Any past FSS figures (besides the 13ths) or con box set figures from 2013 and up are fine to rerelease, because the club never said those were limited or wouldn't be sold in the store. I don't believe they announced limits on Dr. Venom and the Adventure Team figures either. But, again, this poll can tell us how much of a priority that is to the fan-base. The club has a limited staff that will not be expanding so rereleases like this will almost surely take away resources from new characters. Last edited by JediJones; 06-02-2015 at 03:19 PM.. |

If they're willing to create new molds for them or improve the construction a great deal then that's fine. I don't want to be forced to get a figure that's almost the same as one I have already when I subscribe to the FSS.

I'd be surprised if even 5 already released club/con figures make the top 100 in this poll, let alone 13.
Nobody's going to be asking for a Python Tele-Viper before we get the original one remade. |

Exactly my thoughts. I've conceded that I'd have to pay some $$$ to get older con exclusive figures. I understand that. But in some cases, prices have gotten extremely high. Darklon commands almost $200, Annihilator and Python Tele-Viper well over $100. Like many collectors, I want to be able to have a modern version of all of my ARAH figures. For the club, a re-issue sub could be a low-cost, mostly profit venue that would make a large number of collectors happy. Profit for club AND happy club members means win-win. That's my thoughts, at least.
I wouldn't mind different variations - like they did with Dial-Tone in TF colors - but, like with the upcoming Alpine, I'd be mad if I spent big money on one & then they re-released him.

Difference with Alpine is that it was a retail figure that came with no guarantee of being limited.
With almost all the con boxed sets through 2011, we were guaranteed a limited production number. Same with the attendee exclusives and the 13th FSS figures. I think the optics would be pretty bad for the club if they released a formerly attendee exclusive figure in an improved sculpt as something available in their store or an FSS. If anything, any resculpts of those figures should also be sold as attendee exclusives. Rereleasing Darklon or Claymore in the club store for anyone to buy would be no different than putting Frostbite in the club store for anyone to buy. All would violate their original promise and advertising. And if they resculpted and improved them for a store rerelease, it might not violate the letter of the promise, but it would violate the spirit, and would probably tick off their long-time, loyal members. |

I don't disagree with you as much as I selfishly want a modern darklon and snnihilator to go next to my vintage versions. I could have bought both at Joecon this year but had a hard time stomaching paying $300 for two figures. Hence, I'll grovel and plead until I can get modern versions of both to add to my collection.

Zartan, are you planning on stopping this at 13 (like a FSS) or are you planning on running it a while>
Just curious because, if you stop at 13, I'd love to see a follow up poll for con-exclusive figures to be remade as a FSS. Maybe the club would read it and, using existing molds but with small tweaks so as not to upset people who have the originals, make a FSS where they re-release con figures. Just a thought.

Well, I think the best way to go would be to POC-ize Darklon and Annihilator. Make them with new parts with grimmer and grittier colors and outfits. If they looked as different as say the POC Iron Grenadier does from a normal IG, then it wouldn't step on any toes of the prior exclusivity. Basically get them in a new costume, a true v2 outfit.
I'd just rather see these polls focus on actually improving figures or filling in figures nobody has, rather than trying to just help people get a previously released figure for a cheaper price. A poll for straight rereleases would be fine for that, but much less interesting, and probably not practical since the club can't really do straight rereleases of anything limited edition. |
