What would your interest level be if Hasbro did this? Hasbro suspends 4" licensing to the GIJCC.
Hasbro creates a new online subscription service for GI Joe. The subscription service will be based on fan interest and # of subscribers. If the pre-sale goals are met hasbro will release 12 figures in monthly shipments of 2 figures. 1 Subscriber optional figure and 2 subscriber optional playsets/vehicles per subscription period (period to be determined by demand). Figures marketed at $20 each + shipping; vehicles marketed at $25 + shipping for small vehicles or playsets (awe striker/old hiss size), $35 each + shipping for med vehicles (snow cat/ modern hiss size), and $45 + Shipping for large vehicles (Tomahawk/rattler size). Would that feed your Joe fix or make you more upset? And yes I know that's pretty much the club sub and no I won't buy those. The entire reason I like joes superior articulation and accessories and a lower price. (Yes I know 30th/Ren and Ret were the same price as MU SW) |

Piss off fans and collectors

And I don't think Walking Dead action figures are taking as much space as Star Wars, Transformers or TMNT. Quote:
People tend to forget that gijoe is supposed to be "fully posable modern army figure" the neon stuff is when they strayed from what I was sold on as a kid! And once you take articulation away they're no longer fully posable!! This with quality is what made them great!
Again, I saw people claim the wave 1 Retaliation figures were "disrespectful of the brand" by only eliminating wrist, double knee and ankle articulation. We've been well into the era of "super posable" (if not "ultra posable" on select figures) since 2007. AT this stage, collectors take that for granted and anything less is an "insult". Quote:
Hasbro clearly found out about the delay the same time everyone else did: three weeks from premiere with toys already on shelves. 9 months just isn't enough time to overhaul the line the way you describe. And again, most of it would have been pointless considering most retailers were perfectly find to abandon the film barely after the release of the DVD. Quote:
I was really hopeing that Disney wasn't going to let Hasbro get the star wars license renewed. That would of forced Hasbro to go a new direction with in house brands and could of seen a true revival of GIJoe.

Until Hasbro learns their lesson and knows how to market toys in this day and age they will continue to fail again and again.

generator (at least until Episode 7 hits). And that's ignoring powerhouse brand Transformers, My Little Pony, Littlest Pet Shop, Nerf, and near monopoly (HA! PUN!) on the board game aisle. Yep, their multi-billion dollar business is completely reliant on a single licensed property. Quote:
It's made them complacent and they've lost their way, gotten lazy and forgotten what it takes to really sale a brand.

Movies, cartoons, comics, novels, phone apps/games, video games (made by a real company like EA), toy tie ins that actually look like stuff from the movie/cartoon/games/comics. those are the things that can save any brand and bring it to the fore front.
Again, Joe did ALL of that with Rise of Cobra, and it just didn't pay off. Doesn't mean Hasbro can't or won't try again, but just because you HAVE all those things, doesn't guarantee it will work and pay off as it did with Transformers. *Looks over at Transformers...*

I would be for a "new era" of GI Joe, new characters. Maybe tie in with the original series having some of the characters still around but in non-combat roles. Admiral Shipwreck, General Duke..etc. For the cartoon, maybe hire someone like Man of Action to do the writing, since they have a way with mixing action and violence with comedy. Also their brand of violence seems to avoid crossing that "line" that the more conservative parents have drawn in the sand.
For the love of God let's not stick it on some obscure upper tier cable channel that many people don't even have. Maybe a web based series, run commercials for other Hasbro products while you watch GI Joe. At the end of the show it could pop up links to all the toys featured in the episode so little Johnny can say "Mom, can we buy that guy he is so cool!". After all what is a cartoon with a toy brand but a half hour commercial for the toys. As for the toys themselves move back to a much more basic approach. The original 13 Joes were made from what like 3 or 4 torsos, legs and arms put together in different configurations and molded in different colors. My son plays with his "Dollar General Basic" figures just as much as he does the others. He doesn't care that the paint apps aren't awesome and that they only came with one gun. The figures that come with tons of accessories most of the accessories are in a huge zip lock bag in his room and they never get taken out. Collectors may care if the figures come with 6 guns 12 knives, a machete and a partridge in a pear tree but most kids don't. Use 4 or 5 generic figure bucks with unique headsculpts and web gear, basic well planned paint apps and a price point around $6-$7. Get rid of neon colored spring loaded gadgets and ropes and pulleys on everything the kids can handle the shooting projectiles in their imaginations. Just my 2.5 cents on the subject, that and $7 will get you a cup a coffee at Starbucks. |

*Darth Sidious* ALL of them Except maybe me and those handful of shifty lookin' guys in the dark corner over there.... Do they sell "better" or do retailers just order enough to cover demand? Again, the biggest indicator of a line's popularity and demand is how much retail space given to it. And I don't think Walking Dead action figures are taking as much space as Star Wars, Transformers or TMNT. But what's "fully posable" anymore? Depending on who you ask, ARAH figures were "fully posable", but some have said that that articulation is "not posable enough". Because it was all already made and sitting in warehouses. Regardless opinion on accuracy, Hasbro not in the business of throwing away MILLIONS of dollars of inventory just because it's not what fans want (much less the loss of revenue from loosing that summer release spot) Hasbro clearly found out about the delay the same time everyone else did: three weeks from premiere with toys already on shelves. 9 months just isn't enough time to overhaul the line the way you describe. And again, most of it would have been pointless considering most retailers were perfectly find to abandon the film barely after the release of the DVD. To be honest, Hasbro's probably seeing more revenue from Marvel at this stage than Star Wars. Yep, failing so hard they've been posting better REVENUES in more quarters these past 2-3 years than Mattel. Star Wars really isn't that hot right now, again, Marvel is probably a bigger revenue generator (at least until Episode 7 hits). And that's ignoring powerhouse brand Transformers, My Little Pony, Littlest Pet Shop, Nerf, and near monopoly (HA! PUN!) on the board game aisle. Yep, their multi-billion dollar business is completely reliant on a single licensed property. Aside from Transformers and My Little Pony, which was a complete non-entity six years ago and now generates MORE revenue for Hasbro than Transformers. They TOTALLY don't know how to sell a brand. You mean the same EA that COMPLETELY ignored GI Joe Retaliation for a video game tie in? Again, Joe did ALL of that with Rise of Cobra, and it just didn't pay off. Doesn't mean Hasbro can't or won't try again, but just because you HAVE all those things, doesn't guarantee it will work and pay off as it did with Transformers. *Looks over at Transformers...* I ment their failure with GIJoe. Also that with their biggest sellers, Marvel and Star Wars they don't do have to do anything for it except make toys. Disney takes care of the hard work. They probably don't even do much of the design for most of it. Then they more or less sold the soul of transformers away to Paramount (was that the one ? I don't remember). One the few brands they really get out there and do some real work with is with the ponies and pet shop. Those actually have ads on TV sometimes. I'm sure there are some others too. Anyways I should of specified GIJoe and not worded to sound like a generalization of all their brands. Star Wars helped keep them afloat for many years. Not now, but there were some lean times there and Star Wars was the safety net, and in about 10 months Star Wars will regain that biggest seller title again for Hasbro. New Star Wars movies is just a license for Hasbro to print money as long as they have star wars they'll always have that safety net to keep them warm at night. |

Just go buy original versions of the vehicles you want. I do not advise holding your breath for Hasbro.

He wants to but it depends on how big the budget given to the design team will be and what the higher ups will greenlight. Also what marketing thinks may or may not sell.

HASBRO: Oh please Hasbro give the new manager and his team "cart blanch" with all his new ideas.
As we have seen in the past the world can become a very different place when 1 man has all the power. I cant wait to see what he is going to do and what he meant when he said something along the lines of " We know you guys troop build, and were gonna help you out with that " I hope he didnt just mean sticking 1 extra troop builder per case or something along those lines. ARTICULATION: Im 100% happy and fine with how the figures are articulated these days, 99% of them move well enough to get any pose you want out of them. As long as they keep making the index finger separate from the other 3 fingers, so that it fits onto triggers on gi joe and Marauder guns im happy.
