JSI: Making high-end collectibles clearly aimed at an adult market.
Hasbro: Making mass-retail toys generally aimed at children, or at best children and adults in equal measure. I guaran-freaking-tee that after the third or fourth time that craploads of $200 Skystrikers end up getting clearanced out after Christmas (hey, kinda like that Millennium Falcon folks keep bringing up), Hasbro would be sick of losing money on them and give up. Seriously, people...why do you think there were so many previously cancelled items in 1:18th scale across a variety of manufacturers (21st Century most notably)? Because they cost too much and take up too much space to be practical for the casual consumer. The "hardcore" collector that's absolutely going to drop $200+ for a 3 1/2 - 4 foot long Skystriker is a tiny minority of the buying public. Not everyone has a spare room/garage that they can store these things in, nor the disposable income to buy in any great numbers. While the PTE isn't doing 100% size-accurate vehicles (about 1:20 scale as opposed to 1:18) that work well with Joes, i hazard better than Hasbro's own vehicles. I'm not asking H to do huge vehicles with proper rivet lines and rotor spans, but make that damn Resolute H.I.S.S. large enough to look imposing next to the figures. Make that tired-ass H.I.S.S. I 50-60% larger and put some seperate road wheels and treads on it. If toys sold in Big Lots can, why can't you? Even Lanard designs better vehicles. |

While "proper" 1:18 vehicles from Hasbro is a wholly unreasonable thought, it doesn't explain why Big Lots-bound PTE vehicles are on the whole BETTER than anything Hasbro is doing, with lower prices and more accessories included.

1. because the mark up is retarded 2. because the store selling them paid for them...it's really the stores that take the "loss" Quote:

Yeah i wonder how much it actually cost them to manufacture and distribute the BMF. I wonder what the markup really was :(

For some. For me it tends to end in people being added to my ignore list.

Let me clarify my stance before I go on your ignore list. I love Joes, don't get me wrong. I love the CLASSIC Joes more so.
Just that some of their recent offerings seem to be on the dumb side as if they are trying to make the line fail. I mean, they state if the movie line does well, we can see some of the bigger classic items, yet they plan on pumping out crap that has been PROVEN in the past to fail as it's rehashes from other movie lines. I know Hasbro won't get into the 1:18 market and that is fine. They have other successful lines that they don't don't to expand. It's just they don't even try to be on par with lesser companies. Sure some of the movie line will sell at first, ut after a week, kids will move onto the next thing and the shelves and pegs will once again clog with crap, but this time it's worse as most collectors won't want it. I hope I'm wrong so we can get the offerings we do want. Until then, Hasbro won't be getting much if any of my money for the next several months as they are not doing anything I am interested in. Which I know they couldn't give 2 shits about. |
