Sad enough, if a line isn't proprietary to the business like True Heroes is to TRU or The Corps is to Walmart or if isn't related to a major motion picture film then it doesn't get stocked and replenished. Would it be safe to say the same thing about Marvel Legends, Transformers Generations and Marvel Universe as well? Not an accurate depiction of the situation at hand.

The issue I see the most with the brand is that it has no media support. We just limp from one movie to the next. Hasbro needs to draw a line in the sand, sink or swim. As others have stated in the pass, pick a plan and stick with it or just give it a rest.

The product is actually good enough to sell itself IF people know it's out there. A comercial or two,and some adds in the Sunday paper would defenetly help. My son wants what he sees on comercials. He asks for the dumbest toys sometimes too, just cause the comercial is on durring his shows. ask any new to the hobby like myself,I had absolutely no idea what they had become until I bought a 3 pack invasion team for my son at Target. I used to think this way too...that all joe collectors are cheapskates, but that couldn't be any further from the truth. Just like a good fisherman knows what moon to fish under, the seasoned joe collector knows that patients leads to discounted toys.cheapskates don't buy more then they need either. Army building figures or buying multiples of everything isn't the cheap thing to do. Also there's the secondary market, and the way it thrives. cheap bastards don't pay $100 for a kitbash or repaint cause it's hard to find...justsayin

Hasbro's actions tend to support those observations. Retailers aren't THAT stupid, if there was significant demand for GI Joe and those kinds of items, Hasbro would MAKE THEM.
Except for lines like Transformers, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or Avengers, which saw their entire lines released at EVERY retailer BEFORE hitting discounters. Again, the appearance of Joe at discounters in and of itself isn't anything significant, the issue is the sheer VOLUME we've been seeing. Some have seen more Retaliation at discounters than at the "real" retailers in some areas. With that, the Eaglehawk didn't just get clearanced, it was clearanced from the ONLY MASS MARKET RETAILER WILLING TO TAKE IT TO BEGIN WITH! In fairness, Marvel Legends has largely transitioned into a part-time movie tie in line, Universe is barely putting along, and Transformers Generations DOES have a solid kid grab to support it. And I've yet to see significant discount dumps on ANY of those lines. The best indicator of the kind of support GI Joe has is in what Hasbro releases, and since 2010, we've seen fewer vehicles, less new parts (unless tied to promoting a feature film) and less retail support (to the point TRU is basically the only one carrying the line right now) So there is a demand for Joe similar to that of the Star Wars Vintage/Black Series which is also catered to the adult collector's interests. Also, the 50th Anniversary line gets restocked regularly at each of the TRU stores in my area so the line is moving in a good direction. I wish Hasbro would just have faith in the brand and stop procrastinating with devoting more resources and a decent cartoon to support a quality toy line. Neither Joe films were a flop in the box office so there is a huge interest if done correctly.

The prices for single-carded figures haven't been $8.00 for a few years; they've been $10.00. If vehicles were tooled, they have a decent chance of being released, maybe as part of the next movie line. If not, slim chance. Unfortunatey, unless the next movie is a smash hit, we'll probably never see that Cobra command center, due to cost, even though it's based on existing tooling. Figures shown that largely use exisitng tooling, particularly those based on classic ARAH figures, will most likely be released at some point. Going back to price point, that's a big part of it- people need to have realistic concepts of what we should get for our money. Honestly, at $9.99, the Retaliation figures gave more bang for your buck than most action figure lines at similar price points do these days, and still didn't sell extremely well (there were multiple factors- weaker figures in the first assortments, etc., but, still, compared to a lot of other similarly-priced toys, they were pretty good). If we're not willing to pay $10-$12 each for these figures, we won't get them- it just wouldn't make sense for Hasbro, financially.

The Corps and True Heroes sell because they're cheap. I'm pretty sure if Hasbro went back to making 80's and 90's style Joes/Cobras the prices would be lower and parents will be buying. I mean aren't Corps 12 packs like under 30 dollars or something? If Joes were $2.50 a piece those things would be flying off the shelves in large volumes.

What Hasbro wants (and what we, in reality, DO want) is for GI Joe to be treated and sold as a marquee brand. Something on par with major players like Star Wars, Transformers, and Spider-Man. They don't want GI Joe to be thought of as "that other cheap military toy line". Those other lines accomplish what they do because they are cheap: cheap to make, cheap to sell, cheap to develop. Hell, Lanard is still using figure tools from over 10 years ago and vehicles pushing 20! Consider this: Take the 1984 selection of new single figures (plus a Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, Zartan, and a Cobra Trooper). Pretty solid assortment right? How compelling would that assortment be if that (or repaints of those same figures) were ALL you could buy for 5 years? Kind of looses its muster doesn't it? Quote:
But I can't understand what Hasbro expects from a consumer standpoint? Most of the collectors on here and other message boards purchase mass amounts of Joe product online and in store. I for one know that I've spent over a $100 on Joe related product on one visit to Ollie's because it is the first instance of actually seeing a good amount of what I wanted in an actual store. I think the same goes for most of us that buy things when stores are actually willing to stock it; based on my observation here in Maryland alone, we never got a reasonable amount of distribution to the big box retailers after Wave 2 on any G.I. Joe line.
The several hundred thousand kids spending a few hundred bucks a year will always best a few hundred collectors spending a few thousand bucks a year. Again, see Transformers and TMNT as proof. Quote:
So there is a demand for Joe similar to that of the Star Wars Vintage/Black Series which is also catered to the adult collector's interests.
As is, I suspect the only reason the assortment has stuck around is because it's Star Wars and there is a new movie coming next year. Quote:

Again, I think this comes back to longstanding issues we've had with GI Joe since 2007, in whether Hasbro wants to appeal to kids or keep collectors satisfied without the sales capable of doing BOTH like they can in STar Wars and Transformers.
