Which is the reason I ask this question. I totally enjoy the modern figures, I just don't like the constant remakes of core characters and the current drought of figures. I can only imagine how many other figures we could have gotten that have not seen ME versions yet if Hasbro didn't do so many remakes of Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes alone. And when a desired figure is produced in low numbers then you have to pay an arm and a leg to get it off the secondary market. So it causes me to lose interest in collecting modern GI Joes. But when I hunt down vintage on ebay, there's quite a few desirable figures at great prices along with the vintage vehicles.

I had to go with vintage myself. As a child of the 80's, that was what I grew up with. I'm sure you would get similar results if you asked the SW collectors the same question. I son't think it's a question of loyalty…the o-ring is what I first knew as Joe. Although I have quite a few ME, the are still merely an update of a classic….nothing more.

ME for me. me for the ME. I have vintage figures, but they don't compare, and for some reason, I get far more enjoyment out of seeing a figure I remember from the 80s being updated with modern modelling and manufacturing, with all that comes with that. Lets face it, if you had joes in the 80s, it was in spite of their characteristics, not because of it. We know originally they were made the way they were to reduce costs. In the 80s, if both the vintage and ME were for sale, I would have picked ME.

I would choose ME over vintage. Easier to customize, better detailing on the figures(in some cases), and also most of the time cheaper to get than vintage.

I'd absolutely go with the vintage line. I agree with the fact that the modern stuff is cool but nothing matches that feeling of opening a box to a classic Grail like figure from back in the day. In the end it's up to you but even though they cost a bit more and can be harder to obtain...etc... I personally think it's 100% worth it. Either way good luck.

I have both but I'm not into the vintage game anymore. As far as buying I think modern figures have better detailing and the way vintage figures should have looked.

I also voted "modern", and honestly that surprises me about myself...the vintage figures are so special in their own right for obviously reasons, but...it's like what everyone else is saying: The modern figures are better in every way; no o-rings to break, no more brittle plastic that leads to broken thumbs and crotches, added articulation, better proportions, and their sculpting details are just phenomenal. I just wish they were a little more affordable and available.

For Joes, it's the vintage stuff that really hits me in the feels. But for Star Wars, it's the 90's POTF line that has the greatest nostalgia for me. I had the Star Wars stuff as a kid, but it was the prime years of Joe (about 83 to 87) that really feels like childhood. Star Wars memories mostly come from old Polaroids lol.
When Star Wars re-rolled out in the 90's, I was on board, like so many other 20 year old's at that time. I have fond memories of hunting for figures in those pre-Ebay days, when I had no wife or kids, just work and college, and had plenty of time to hunt at Walmart or Target late at night. |
