I would like to build the main cast of Joes and Cobra. Not to many, just the ones that were on the show the most.
With Bareness, Destro, Flyntt and some others coming out for the 50th, do you guys think that Hasbro is rebooting the figure line again and going with an ultimate type theme? I ask because if they aren't, I am thinking of hunting down some of the 25th Anniversary figures. Last question, what other "classics" GI Joes are currently out in the Retallation wave? I saw the Crimson guard, but he didn't look very G1ish. I am not sure how he looked without his vest. But with the relative lack of consumer and retail support (hence why you saw all those Joe clearances over the years), I wouldn't be placing on sure bets on what might happen next year (and I don't know who you would consider "core" on the teams anyway). Though I would consider new versions of Duke, Zartan, Roadblock and Gung Ho as highly likely in that regard. And like Transformers and Star Wars, there is ALWAYS the chance Hasbro might redo someone better next year, so if you really want certain characters, I'd go ahead and get 25th versions (assuming better versions don't already exist), especially given most 25th versions are still fairly cheap to acquire. The Crimson Guard is primarily based on the 25th CG with new limbs and new head sculpt. With the vest, it IS an improvement over the 2008 release, though I still have yet to see a "Modern Era" Crimson Guard I've been really happy with (the BAT, though, they knocked that out of the park and are still using that fantastic figure to this day) Probably the only other major "Classic" release I'd point to within Retaliation would be the "Cobra Invasion Team" 3 pack, which features a repaint of the well received Shock Trooper, Storm Shadow, and what might be the best "G1" Firefly Hasbro has done to date. And for what it is worth, I still view it highly likely that Hasbro might end up moving away from ME with future product lines, so I'm not overly optimistic on the Ultimate figure trend continuing for too much longer, but that's just me.

Hasbro has been "soft upgrading" figures for years, so the "Ultimates" coming this fall aren't especially new in that context. ON the flipside, the 25th hit a LOT of characters that are VERY unlikely to be revisited at retail (like Croc Master).

What I have decided to do with Joes is to leave them for my son. So what I am hoping to do is to make a list of my favorite characters and get those. Then try to find a lot of other Joes. Let my son play with all this stuff. When he is done playing, then I will display them. I took him to the NJCC and he loved all the GI stuff. So I figure, I should get it for him. Should be fun for him. Last edited by Alucard77; 05-07-2014 at 08:34 AM.. |

No one knows what their plans are. I think they are going to milk the concept case shown these last few years until the GI Joe 3 movie line. After that? who knows...
