That is pretty much the perfect summation of what this line and toy companies in general are up against.

Hasbro would like to think we're a small part of the market because then they don't have to pay attention to our bouts oif frothing nerd-rage. The fact is that while numerically, we're only 1% of the market, we individually buy 50 times more of this line what the average kid buys.
When I was 8 I had 1 Joe figure. Now I have... well actually I lost count at around 150, but I think you guys get the idea. |

The Target here has those cheap looking army soldiers right next to the G.I. Joes and they are $2 more...
Yet just yesterday, I saw 2 kids wanting those cheap Army soldiers and not the G.I. Joes.. and sad thing is the kid's dad (whom I'm sure grew up watching G.I. Joe) didn't encourage the kids to get the G.I. Joes instead.. |

I was reading this article G.I. Joe Performed Well During 1st Quarter 2009 - GI Joe News which really shocked me because the 25th line didn't fit into the Hasbro's fanatical devotion with spring loaded weapons and other gimmicks. 25th was hardcore compared to earlier offerings. It was stocked full of army builders. And catered to us adult collectors more then any other line.
Did Hasbro underestimate the power us collectors had with the 25th line? Or did Hasbro total fudge up what they thought kids wanted? is there something I am missing in your position that clarifies this? |
