Grab them all (at 1st). Check the paint then RE-check the paint. Buy the best 2, 1 for me & 1 for my brother (PoweredConvoy), put the rest back (-troops), then marvel at my prizes!!

I'm a stickler where paint app's are concerned, and will more than likely wait if it's a figure that just sucks on the pegs in the paint dept. I know that at some point I'll find that figure again, and at that time have a better selection of paint app versions to choose from- Shipwreck being a perfect example.
When I first found Shippy, thankfully I was able to nab one who's beard didn't look like it had been applied by a blind crack-head. If I hadn't been able to locate a 'great' one, I probably would have purchased the best one I could find, and then just traded out on my display shelf when a better one came along.
Speaking of which; Hasbro makes it even easier now with swappable heads! Usually the heads are where the paint app's go most astray. Again, purchasing a better figure later means I can choose the best body of the two and just slap the better head on the best body. I know that probably seems weird, but why not?!

As long as I want it and the card isn't too jacked up I'll buy it. I don't care too much about inspecting the paintwork.

If its a figure that I dont have and have been hunting for it for weeks... I usually yell out there NAME, something like this "...whoaaa.....FLASH....SNOWJOB...YES.." Quickly Grab them ALL.....(I never havea cart, as I am racing in the store to the Toy Asle,) then check Cards.....and if am Lucky enough to Find more than 1 Good Carded Fig then I cehck for paint Apps...but again if I dont have the figs at all Paint apps dont matter....Like now... I have a Flash with no paint on the tip of his nose....Not an issue as I have a flash with good paint MOC, but this one is for Open and now he can be with the rest of the team in my display case.

I check over the figure but I normally just buy it. It's hard finding anything here. Oddly the first thing I look at is the crotch lol. I always look for a "fixed" crotch and then I look for paint apps.

I usually check out the joints on the figures to see if anything is messed up. Next is the paint, and then the accessories. My friend wanted a v2 SnakeEyes, but the only ones we found had extremely bent swords, so he passed. Now we can't find one to save our lives.

I typically grab one of each I don't have and then crush them against my chest so no one can grab them out of my hands while I jump up and down in my own "5 yr old pee-pee dance" like CIAD.
If I think about it later (I usually spend a few minutes in the toy aisle) I may check to see if the paint apps are ok. I could care less about the card most of the time (It's getting the bubble cut off and being tossed in a box with all the other card backs anyway)
Then I excitedly walk up to the cashier while drooling over my new treasures. I've only had 1 cashier remark about the toys I bought years ago. She said something like "Someone's gonna be happy when they see these" That's when I replied "These are for me"
