Ok I know its peoples money and all and if you got it flaunt it (So 80s), but why spend all the cash on something that will be over flowing on the pegs come this summer? I mean Ive heard people spent $80 on a movie fig (Not CC)........Why? What makes you do it? Why do you have to have it now? What would having it next week give you that waiting 2-3 months wont (Besides xtra cash in your wallet)?
I can understand some (Some not all) of the 25th Foil Carded ones....but its a summer movie and I know for a fact that pegs will be over flowing with them......It wont be like the modern figs with stores getting one case......they will get many cases.
And yes I know its your money and all as a certain Mod will come in here and say, but this is in toy general discussion.....and I just want to get in the heads of those of you who do it? Why cant you wait 3 months?
No arguing are calling people names.....just an honest discussion....

It's the "gotta have it first" mentality.

With the economy the way it is, how do people even have the disposable cash to drop 80 bucks on a figure you'll be able to get in a couple of months for 8 bucks?
Normally, when good economic times, I'd say "it's your money, spend how you want" but in these times.. I have a tough time even dropping 40 bucks on a couple of HoH figures for display. I have a hard time justifying that kind of expense.
So I'm curious how/why people justify spending that kind of money (80 vs 8 for example). WS_Toys normal 15 bucks a figure isn't bad, that's more "acceptable" but still...
Is getting it early that important?
And if so, who's it important to and why is it important?
Now I could see a toy reviewer spending more to get it upfront in order to post a review for all to see, to help people get a better idea on if they want to purchase it, but I haven't seen any in-depth reviews so..

I never dropped 80 bucks on a figure just to have it now but I do understand the reasoning. Back in the 90s when the SW toys were the only hot figures going to me, you could not find them anywhere near Chattanooga. You either spent the extra cash from scalpers or ebay or you waited. If you waited there was a chance that by the time the chains carried it the cases had been revised and no hard to find figure for you...at all.
Granted you mentioned the figures that will be peg warmers and I think in that case it comes down to more ocd behavior. Before I calmed down my spending I too would be a get it at any cost cause it is out and I want it now. I feel a ting of that now with all the t4 toys on the tank but knowing they will be released in days instead of months helps calm the gotta have it now.
I will pick up a CC from the movie figs ( I am likely the only person that likes it) and maybe a few others but not in that big of a hurry to have mediocre versions of cool characters.

Maybe they know something we don't. Personally I look back fondly on the days of the $4.77 25th figures at Wal Mart.
I'm content to wait patiently for most of them to reach stores, and in come cases for them to go to clearance later on.

For many of us, the economy hasn't hurt us. Many of us arenmt homeowners and many of us have jobs within stable companies. I don't live off my investments, nor am I nearing retirement.
I know theres a group of unemployed people, but thats becaue they had their own thread, and its not worth remarking if you have a job. So for me to accidentally order 12 merman figures or spend $65 on an Eradicator figure isn't a big deal to anyone who isn't in a money crunch. There haven't been Joe releases in a long time, Some of us have extra cash lying around.
That being said, I would never pay more than retail for one of these figures or vehicles.

Even if not directly affected by the economy, the thought has to be in the back of the mind that "I should make sure I save some just in case".
But even if not bad economy and have tons of disposable income, how does one justify spending 80 for an 8 dollar item?

I sort of understand the sentiment; because two or three months is a hell of a wait. I remember when my local comic shop got in the new Joe and Cobra 5 packs I had waited so long for them that I wanted to buy it right then and there for the 40 bucks he was charging and just get it over with. Fortunately, the guy said I had to buy both Cobra and Joe sets so I had to pass.
Two weeks later I bought them for 35 bucks at my local Tru; I kept the receipt though and bought it again at my local Walmart for 28 bucks and returned it to TRU (thus saving 6 bucks, lol). And I kept my Walmart receipt so if it ever shows up a my local Target for 25 bucks I can save another 3 bucks... in theory LOL.

Same could be said about buying a 100k vehicle or a 10k one. If you have money, you don't worry about the economy. If you are an average mid-class citizen, you SHOULD think about how you spend. Rich people don't have to think about revenue vs expenses (at least personally).
