That was one of the problems from the start....people buying them to make a buck...Collect these things because you can afford it....not to pay your bills. Get a job...be part of society. If you want to sell Toys ope a toy store. Then again if Fan B didnt have to have "Insert Fig Here" Yesterday and could have waited a month maybe 2 then crap wouldnt have been so high on Ebay. Which Scalpers saw this and ran with it. Which is one of the reasons you see repacks on ebay now because people jumped on the bandwagon and wanted to sale over priced Joes also...BUT if Fan B,C,D,E,F and Z would just be patient and never had paid those prices the damn things wouldnt have been so high. My all time Favorite thing is when a Tanker has a post that says Joes for sale.......go to my over priced Ebay Account and look.....thanks, but no thanks..... I've sold numerous Joes on the Tank but I sell them at a decent price or I've traded. If I want to search on Ebay I'll do just that. |

I'm at 89 CGs, 9 Vipers, 20 Blueshirts etc... The CG Army is my main focus but I do troop build a little bit with the rest. With the Viper 5-pack coming out, I may switch my focus to them...

It is not about the value in cash it is in the value in fun.

Toys were never meant to be anything but toys; whether MOC or opened they should only be worth the value of a smile IMO. *starts to play the violin* LOL.

Little late to the party, but yeah, I don't think 25th Joes are going to send anybody's kids to college.
PotF2 Star Wars hit right at the height of the "speculators' boom" of the early-mid 90's, when it seemed like everyone and their mother was getting into collecting of all kinds, thinking that this stuff was going to end up worth bazillions of dollars "just like the old stuff" and that they were going to retire at age 40 by selling it off in 20 years or so. What they failed to realize is that the value of the older product was (as noted in the OP) based upon rarity. Most people opened their Star Wars and RAH Joe figures and played with them, which left MOC samples far rarer despite the huge numbers of figures produced. PotF2 also had the benefit of hitting in the time period before video games became the dominant form of kids' entertainment. In short, it was massively overproduced, and so many people were buying it for "speculative value" that there very well may be more MOC samples of PotF2 than there are loose! 25A/Modern Era Joe was produced in far, far lower numbers than PotF2 ever was. Some figures will end up being essentially worthless (Several of the Cobra Commander/Snake-Eyes/Duke/Storm Shadow variations), but some of the rarer figures/items may retain some value on the secondary market, as well as the more popular troop builders. They won't likely reach crazy heights of value unless they're really rare (SDCC Exclusives, mostly), but they'll continue to sell at a steady level for the forseeable future. |

I bought the new SW in the 90s but not for future value I bought them for what SW meant to me as a child. I do the same with Joes.
It is funny because the ones that are most valuable or hard to find are usually the ones lowest on my gotta have list. With that said I agree on the value not going up too much do to a lot will be kept moc but I do not think it will sink to the level of the 90s SW due to the superior sculpting. The whole reason I quit SW was I already had 10 Lukes and each new one was a better sculpt thus making all mine look like crap. I am not a big fan of reissuing a toy to just add an accessory but due like that all the figures are on the same level of quality. I also like the fact that Hasbro has made most 3 3/4 figures similar in production so you can add Wolverine or a clone trooper to your Joe army with out it clashing. Collect for fun and leave the collect for value to those hot wheels kooks ( just kidding I do know some hot wheels collectors that buy them for fun). If you want an investment buy stocks, bonds or those hummel statues that smell like circus peanuts and funeral homes. As for value I dont think my moc stuff will not be nearly as valuable to me as the open, paint worn, and glue fixed figures that I play with with my son. Those figures will be priceless. Especially the Clone trooper that has 2 glued in left hands due to a botched battlefields surgery. |

That's a good point: Hasbro's tendency to release updated/improved versions of the same characters in the Star Wars line does render the older versions far less valuable.
