The big issue is still (Supply verses Demand). I just see a lot of AFA graded figures being tucked away. If there is still a high amounts of Mint on card figures 25 years from now who is going to buy them at a high price.
The current trend of collecting is being fueled by people like you and me who want this stuff. One day we will have our fill and all the excess will still be around with little to no buyers.

I buy 25th Joes for the nostalgia, and because I love to collect action figures. I open all my Joes(all my toys for that matter), and could care less what they are/will be worth.

the 25th toys were the first toys i kept moc, just for the packaging; now it's turned into some uncontrollable disease i'm trying to curb. i can pretty much be sure i'll never be able to get much more than what i paid for my moc joes in return; but at this point, i can't see myself selling them either. they will just sit and be there for me to look at and take up space in my basement.
truth be told, i'm ok with that. |

I have become an opener myself. The last few items I have that are not opened are being traded or sold off. Toys are for playing with, or displaying, or just simply enjoying. Then again I am just enjoying my collection, even if that means ripping them free of the prison that some call "Mint on Card". I will not be getting rid of my collection, I am enjoying it to much to do such. I finally realized something I have never thought of before. That realization is this, "when we die, that is it, there is no reset, it is simply game over, so enjoy life while you are ALIVE and let no one take the simple pleasures from you". I am having a great time building my dream collection, a collection of toys that makes me proud. I am, after all, the only person I have to make happy. I will not ever hurt any one elses happiness, but I will not deny my own either.

This may all be true but I recommend buying this movie line coming out because I get the feeling that this will be the sleeper that everyone passes up and these figures will rise in value.
This also depends on the success of the movie and how it affects the rest of the franchise. Since the film is slated for August, my suspicions are that the film is less than great considering the late summer listing. (I could be wrong but I pride myself on films). August is a hoaky time slot for a summer action film. Regardless, 25th line may bomb but there will be some jems in the mix. Don't pass up the movie line. I can feel the force on this one.

sorry to detract.
The movie is going to suck. I don't think kids are going to be into it, or understand it. I have seen ONE kid buying a joe in the ENTIRE time I have been collecting the 25th line. and about 40 adults. this is an adult oriented line. adults take care of their stuff...most of the time. lots of collector grade stuff on the market = market flooded = worthless. which is why you should be collecting to collect and have and play with. not trying to "make an investment". Definetly not an investment. Some of the rare variants maybe...but otherwise I am a proponent of "FREE THE JOES". Gotta play with them. |

I believe toys are meant to be opened, displayed/played with, and enjoyed. We are lucky to have such great figures in this Joe 25th line to enjoy! (But there are still a few more figures/vehicles hasbro needs to make ;) .

I've spent a signiicant amount of money on toys. But when I do my personal accounting, I classify these spendings as a Leisure expenses, not investments. Toys, in general, make poor investments. Why? No cash flow and high volatility. Except for a few rare highly sought after toys, don't expect to make a lot of money. I buy toys for my personal enjoyment. Sometimes, after I buy a lot of toys, so much that I don't even have enough space for them, I don't get as much satisfaction as when I first started to collect. I buy stocks/funds for my personal investments.
