I always look them over so long as the have more than one of the one I want. Sometimes Hasbro's QA is not so good on paint applications. As far as army builders go though, no major thing.
Most of the time though, my area has one of the figures I want, so I can't be too picky on what I get. |

I generally try too... but sometimes, there's only one on the peg... so I don't bother... except to make sure that someone didn't repack it...

Yep. I generally worry about the face/head. I make sure there are no major flaws on the face, eyes are the same direction, even hair, etc. The body is less important and I can forgive imperfections in the paint if they aren't glaring. I usually just pull copies of a figure off the pegs until I find one I'm happy with, but if it gets down to two minorly flawed copies of a figure I'll go back and forth until I choose the one that I'm satisfied with.
MOC would be less about the card and more about having a good version of the figure still sealed. If I have two, one to open and the other to keep sealed, I open the lesser of the two. |

paint job priority as follows.
1st---eyes 2nd---hair/hatlines 2.5---overall face 3rd---outfit (mostly clothing/glove limits) 4th---weapon (straightness) |

I always check to see which has the best paint job, least bent appendage inside the plastic tray, and any other blemishes that are visible. My wife just rolls her eyes at me when I do this.

I only check the paint quality on the head and face; I can pretty much overlook any quality issues anywhere else.
