I, too, used to woork loss prevention at Target, and a lot of times it will just depend on what your supervisor (or his/her supervisor) wants the team to focus on. If it's refund fraud--which this would be--then you watch every single thing that goes over that guest service desk. You especially notice if the same people come in over and over, as I assume repackers would. Sometimes you just take them aside to talk to them, after refusing the refund (we had a guy who would buy 4 light bulbs then bring back 3 good ones and the one burnt out one he switched), and sometimes your boss wants you to take it up a notch. After all, numbers--"recoveries"--are the way you measure productivity in that field.

its all a tax write off for target. it is the regonal and local managers that beef up on security and such. that is just so they can keep their lame ass jobs.
and arrested for shoplifting yes, depending on the store, city cop, or whatever. as long as it wasnt a felony who really cares.the level of misimenor is no different than running a stop sign. no different than taking a peanut or grape as you walk by the food court. |

I probably would have been quick to call BS on this story, but a few months ago the fam and I were at Target and as we were walking to the car 3 kids ran out (maybe early 20's) and they had all stolen shoes and some other stuff from Target one of them flew right by me and my daughter and almost bumped into us. Sure enough though Target security was right behind them giving chase. One of them was nabbed right outside the doors, the other one literally was tackled over someones car and wrestled to the ground and the last (the one that flew by us) got out of the parking lot darted across the street through traffic and the store security still didn't letup they chased him all the way to the mall across the street and finally the cops showed up (with target popcorn bags in hand) and took all three away

Actually, that's a pretty bad analogy. Running a stop sign will get you a traffic citation, a fine and a court date. Shoplifting, on the other hand, will get you a mugshot, fingerprinting, a night in the smaller with boyfriend bubba, etc. BIG difference between the two. Whether or not it's a tax write off is irrelevant.
if you dont go to prison for it , then it really isnt that serious. |

I have never heard of anyone being arrested for running a stop sign unless they had an outstanding warrant or were charged with other, more serious violations. I am not a lawyer though so I'll have to defer to your legal expertise on that one. That said, I still say your analogy is a bad example because, here in the real world, folks don't get arrested for running a stop sign but they do get arrested for stealing/shoplifting. |
