Most people don't care, think they should do a crappy job, cause they're paid less then they feel they should be...plus there's little to no accountability at a lot of big corporate stores like Walmart,target,Ross....because their boss feels the same way they do,lol... Quote:

for every lazy employee who just does not care, I have had the ones who will carefully examine every inch of the item and go down the list of included items to account for everything. does anyone consider that they assume something to be wrong or missing from the toy in the first place ? I suspect they assume the customer was the Idiot who didnt notice that "the accessories were missing" or "they must have put the wrong figure in at the factory" when they bought the figure. they don't assume we are trying to trick them into returning switched out items and thats good because most of us are not! I'm starting to think this thread has repackers in it. the focus should be on the Repacker!! not on the "dumb employees" they managed to "trick". this thread seems like a place for repackers to show off "how well" they managed to get one by. I'd be willing to wager the volume of daily returns, of all products, is astounding. Let's say you're a schlub working a service desk and someone with a receipt returns something you don't care about--Scentsy shit or cosmetics or something related to feminine hygiene or exercise/healthy living...are you going to be able to know, in a pinch, in a reasonable amount of time, with a line of aggravated, self-absorbed customers, whether or not something's been monkeyed with? Yeah... |

You sir are probably right about one thing I would bet my left testy that there are multiple repackers in this thread. Quote:
I know, right? I like how some seemingly expect everyone to be as big a toy-geek as they are. Newsflash! Adults who give a shit about kid's toys are the aberration and not vice versa. Hell, outside of G.I. Joe crap, I wouldn't know what most toys ought to look like. Ben 10? Power Rangers? Barbie? Disney dolls? Even some Marvel...I have no idea.

Yeah, no...there's a point where common sense must prevail. Yes, we are geeks who know more about toys academically than the average customer service clerk. But that customer service clerk has eyes, and does his or her own shopping, and knows what new product and sealed packaging look like, and knows the difference between a rubber bendy and an action figure.
If I tried to jam an old tube-type computer monitor into a flat-screen box for return, and they took it, would you just shrug and say "Well, they aren't computer experts...?"

And yet there's often a disclaimer on that very same box stating that the contents may differ from the image on the box. And what picture? You mean the one of The Rock on the front of every carded Retaliation figure? Plenty of toys now feature generic art for multiple different items...and any specific art looks the same as all the other stuff anyway to non-geek eyes.

Mostly, it's more about not pissing off the customer than not paying attention/not caring anyway. Plenty of poor retail schlubs have been fired for trying to protect the store's interests. All it takes is a customer complaint, right or wrong. I can't say it would be worth fighting over a $10.00 item. Anyway, I find it funny how toy-nerds are always, "don't judge me for my kid's toys!" Yet, they're easily some of the most judgmental people around. From, "That writer and/or director's a hack! He should die!" to "That loser ought to be able to tell the difference between a POC Rock Viper and a o-ring Funskool Dusty!" to "They (whichever filmmaker, toymaker or screenwriter has caught the ire of the aggravated geek) don't get (insert toy or comic property here) and have raped my childhood!" I've been guilty of it myself in the past (just far less extreme). Nowadays, I don't much care, and if I don't like something I say so without acting like I could've done better while wishing death upon the offender.
