It isn't exclusive to GI Joe as I have seen my share of Transformer repacks as well. I saw a repack of a Deluxe class ROTF Sideswipe in place of a Human Alliance Sideswipe. I looked at it and said that looks weird. I should have taken a picture. Honestly I find that to be a huge douche move, just because there may be some people who are buying it for their kid who don't know and they become an innocent victim.

I would too. That would go viral on YouTube in the matter of minutes. But you know they will say it came that way....and if they put up enough of a stink, the manager will most likely cave and let them return it anyways. I don't know how you could ever "prove" they did it though since most of them probably already have a story to tell if they get "caught".

Okay, how dumb do you have to be to work at customer service in retail? I mean with Retaliation you have pics of the actual product on the back of 3 packs and the lower right hand corner of single carded figures. It's not rocket science, does the item match the picture?
If I worked customer service for retail and had someone pull a fast one with a repackage return, I'd either be fired or in jail for beating the crap out of a customer. F***ing douche bags!!! Found this one the other day: I pointed this out to the dude working toys at Target. At first he was confused, then got pissed when he realized what had happened. What pissed me off even more is that when I found it I was flipping through the 3-packs hoping to hand the wave 1 SS/SE/Red Ninja pack to a kid and his dad who were disappointed about SS and SE costing $10 each. (Not making this up, I swear. It's also the second time in as many weeks that I've seen a kid in the toy aisle excited about GI Joe. Was good to see.) |

I'm sure we've all seen it at one time or another...some unsavory character buys an action figure box set, does a swap, and returns it back to the store. For some reason, I've ONLY noticed happening with GI Joe figures...I've never noticed it happening with other brands. It's weird. Anyone care to speculate as to why this seems unique to the Joe brand?
Well, today I think I've seen the worst example of this, and I took some pictures to share with you, because you all mean so very much to me. Honestly, it made me crack up in the middle of Target for a few seconds when I first saw it. This swap was a total scumbag move on the part of whoever did it, but if anyone is stupid enough to buy a GI Joe set with Mr. Sulu in it, they kinda deserve to be duped...unless it's some clueless parent getting it for their kid, I guess. The funniest part of this is that someone went to all that trouble just to snag some scrub Red Ninja! I could maybe understand the 3-pack Firefly or something, but the Red Ninja? Feel free to share your story and pics of evil GI Joe toy swapping that you've some across. That's not Sulu, it's Quick Kick. He's Sulu's stunt double. And I'd have bought the 3 pack that Hellion saw just for that Ripper! |

The average serf who works the returns counter at Walls-Mart or Target don't care. They're not paid enought to care. I returned some kids shoes to Wal-Mart once and they didn't even look in the box! I could've returned used shoes, or a sack full of McNuggets for all they knew. As long as it scans, they takes it.
I've also seen this with Hot Wheels/Matchbox multi packs. Since the multipack decos are unique, they'll often put in a regular car or a crappy Maisato decoy. |

The only way I think you could maybe do something about it, is if the person doing, repeatedly returned figures. That though may be tough as well, if different people do the return (at the counter as well as the person). I would think that a good manager would alert them to watch out for suspicious returns. Ultimately the store pays the price for the fraudulent return, which then makes them loose money on the figures, which may then lead to them not carrying as much. In extreme cases, might even lead to them not carrying it at all. That's the reason I want people to get caught doing this...because it hurts people who are supporting the line. >:(

My luck, this would be the one my wife would purchase for me. Then id be stuck with that jag off figure in my collection. Cause I know the min I through a fit, or trashed it, she would say I told you so and never buy me anything again.

The sad thing is that some poor kid might really be looking forward to getting this for his birthday. I know growing up I'd usually only get one toy, so this would be a huge disappointment. I hate to think we live in a society that feels they need to do this but it's happening. Look at the lady who bought iPads and replaced them with tablets, or the guy who bought Xbox's and returned them without the hard drives.
I used to see this in the 90's with Hot Wheels multi-packs cars replaced with the really cheap ones you could get at the dollar store, or single-carded GI Joes replaced with one of the lesser-known wanna-be's. |
