They can't be an expert on every item in the store, toys or non-toys. In the case of action figures, if the figure resembles the artwork then they probably assume it is the right figure. Keep in mind, those people are not collectors. They don't understand the collector market or the differences between this Viper or that Viper. They can't be expected too. You are looking at this from your very narrow view of the problem. The alternative is to just not accept returns for action figures at all. Now the store has just punished the majority of people that are doing the right thing for the minority that are thieves. Who wins in that scenario?

To be fair, I've had a few experiences at Walmart where the person actually did take the time to examine the package carefully. In one case, I was returning a Jabba set, and the lady actually broke the seal, took everything out and compared it to the back of the box. I thought that was pretty good of them to do that, and I wish they all were like this one employee. Personally, I think if they packed the more collectable figures like GI Joe and Vintage Star Wars in those impossible to open sealed plastic bubbles like some cheap cameras it would let the employee know right away that it was opened. Then they could simply refuse to return any figure that was opened. Plus it would reduce the amount of damaged cards and be a huge plus for MOC collectors. |

Repackers I call them LOOTERS, getting what they want putting crap they Do Not Want in pkg or box return to store and get money. Thats Stealing hence why they should be called LOOTERS.

Repackers sounds like too nice a word! ;)
I'll bring my cell phone in with me next time. I feel bad for the parent who goes in to buy for their kid and doesn't know the difference. I wonder if this person is doing it because he can't afford it, or is a jerk, or a scalper selling them on ebay as loose figures. A customized repacked figure. Now, that would be something to see. lol |

If I worked at Walmart and someone stuffed a Ben 10 toy in a Bey Blade box or whatever I wouldn't know the difference. Considering I'm making minimum wage I doubt I'd care either.

Atomic, it's an age old discussion/debate, my friend. I've seen some of the funniest repacks...for instance, when the remake of Star Trek first came out, someone had repacked an Uhura figure with a Dollar Store Valor vs. Venom Scarlett figure...
Now, granted, the returns counter employee might not be too familiar with toys...but I'm pretty sure everyone knows that Uhura isn't a redhead with ivory skin. |

These looter are such small minded miscreants. I have this image of a greasy haired, beer belly, unbathed, acne-scarred, pizza chewing, mountain dew swilling knuckle dragger doing this.

I seriously doubt it's because they can't afford it. No matter the motivation, it's stealing, pure and simple, and it's wrong.

I found a starwars repack of rancor keeper where someone stuffed the 90s version into the current ones pack. I thought it was a varient then laughed at my stupidity when i realized what it was.
