AFA is just an outside source that grades the condition of the package. AFA adds value, nothing more.

the only figures I have kept MOC are certain 25th figures that bring back memories of childhood. I like looking at the card art not the value attached to it. I open everything else. I agree.....what's the point.

yeah afa you gotta spend money to make your toys worth more. kindfunny to me, because if i spend $10 on a toy and paywhat ever to have it afa graded, then you prob have spent more than what the toy is worth on the shelf.
the most rediculouse thing is to afa a comic card from the 25th line. also i think moc vintage is cool ,but it is in due time that the o-ring will rot and snap and you will be stuck with body parts in a plastic tomb |

As an opener, I don't get it either, so I won't try to explain.
But toys are made to be played with - hence the name TOYS. |

I'm helping out the MOC collector, raising his/her value by opening mine up.
I'm also saving a lot of money buying loose complete figures, instead of MOC. Do what you want, it's your money.

some people collect MOC because of value (MOC definitely being the more valuable in the long run), or because of the packaging/art. i don't care about the packaging, and i don't care about value, as i don't collect as an investment. i open everything i have and display them that way.
neither way is 'better' than the other no matter what some people here will try to (and have tried to, in the numerous threads devoted to this topic) convince you of, because everyone has different reasoning behind their collections. |

Basically, I understand whatever reasons people want for the figure to be unopened, provided it's a personal reason. I've just seen too many comic/collectable fanatics flip out like the damned things shouldn't be touched or opened EVER.
Hey, I do hold on to all my packaging. And if it's a personal favorite, I keep it in the box and do what other people said "get a second". My woman is really awesome when it comes to it. Every time she goes to Wal-Mart, Target, or even K-Mart she rolls through the toy section to see what they have. She knows exactly what I have, and she has an eye for things... she grabbed up the "3rd" Snake Eyes in a black costume, then found the "Greatest Battles" DVD set and made me keep the black costumed figure in the box, alond with the "1st" and "2nd" I have. Besides, the one in the DVD box was way cooler, anyway... good "Jungle Commando" look about him. Anyway, neither here nor there. My question at this point is: Why, or rather How would you sell it? I tried this with some old X-men figures I bought extras for back in the day- A Spy Mission Wolverine, 1st and 2nd edition Deadpool, Robot Wolverine, and some others... and I kept checking Toyfare... nothing, not even worth the effort. Is that reliable, or how should I have priced them? |
