I'm a closet joe collector for the most part. Most of my girlfriends family are kind of up and up and kind of look down on this sort of stuff. Today we went over to some of her family's house and her nephews were talking about Halo wars. I have been meaning to rent it but never did, so i went up and had them show it to me.
What i see when i enter their room was a shelve with a bunch of 25th G.I. Joes. So immediately the conversation turned from video games to joes. I noticed they have a few army builders (the cobra troopers) but only 1 bat and 2 vipers between the two of them. So i asked them why so little of the most awsome army builders out there? Their response was the same issue i have been having, they couldn't find any. Everywhere they went they kept looking for Bats and Vipers and were fresh out. They had a few wild bills (for obvious reasons) and the others but couldn't find any good army builders anywhere.
They would buy them if they could find them they said and they had a little money saved up. So we hopped in the car and started a hunt through the various targets and walmarts. 4 hours later we picked them up 4 vipers, 2 wraiths and 2 water mocs. But no BATS anywhere. So went home and gave them 5 out of my 45 BATS i've been buying on the internet. They were happy.
When is Hasbro going to learn that certain figures are going to sell better then others? They continue to be stubborn on these 'assortment' cases. They moan about G.I. Joe not having the sales like they did in the 80s but they also continue to miss on opportunities to sell more figures by sticking to their guns on these assortment packs. Then the pegs are stocked with figs no one wants, so the retailers don't order anymore. Its like a vicious little cycle of ignorance. They are going to move 10 times more BATS then they will Wild Bills, but continuously make the same about for both figs.
I know that if this was back in 1985 when the first BATS showed up Hasbro wouldn't know if the BATS would sell. But there has been 20 years of proven facts that BATS are HOT ITEMS! Its nice they made more versions, like the resolutes which they could probably move 10 time more of them if they made them single carded, the new battle damaged ones are still using the stupid assortment strategy.
I know some of the blame is us collectors and army builders. I have tons of BATS i bought off the internet leaving less of the cool stuff for the kids but it seems to me that Hasbro thinks they are exempt to the laws of supply and demand. The way it seems to work with Hasbro is this: They give us a limited supply, we demand more, they demand we buy a bunch of crap filler figs in order to increase supply of the ones we really want.
Another less important rant: At one time it was said that the boxing of the figures with the fancy color art work cost Hasbro just as much or more to have made then it cost to create the figure. Don't know if thats true or not anymore but wouldn't it be great to go to these e-tailers and purchase a plain white box with 6 vipers in it that only cost 14 bucks instead of 25? Think of the shipping costs we could save! We could actually probably afford more vipers!
I'm glad Hasbro is starting to come around and exknowledge the demand for Army Builders. It just seems they are so stubborn and set in their ways to actually do it right.

Hasbro came out with an army builder wave. Unfortunately, its not with the Bats. I hope TRU get a 5 packs exclusive.
From my experiences with toy hunting, the Bats are the most competitive one to obtain!

It makes so little sense. Can you imagine how well a BAT 5 pack would sell? An Eel 5 pack? They would fly off the shelves. Hell a CP with 2 BATS or 2 Eels would also move. If they really wanted to sell toys, they could comic pack army builders with new figs, in other words, a BAT and Footloose, or an Eel and Covergirl. Those would fly off the shelves. HAsbro just doesn't ssem to have any idea what the public wants. I bought two Cobra Resolute Troopers today at Target. They must have 10 or more Mutts hangin out. 6 or so Cobra Flints. Cases should be 10 or twelve figs, one of each named character( i.e. Flint, Scarlet, Gungho) and multiples of army builders (Eels, Vipers, BATs) They would sell a lot more figs and save on shipping as many cases.

The Wild Bill production is amazing to me! Too many crappy figs like that need to be limited when first made. If the demand is high enough, make more. It's that simple...

I've lost count of how many BATS I've left hanging on pegs at this point.

They're wising up. My last raid at TRU they had a ton of troopers, divers, ninja vipers, and god help us, even PP CGs. There were quite a few Airborns, but unless they stick him in a revision wave too soon we shouldn't see him warming pegs.
I think most revision waves have two of the more popular army builders per case, but when you got guys grabbing them up by the dozen, well, it's not hard to do the math.

I've found tons of BATs out there lately. Tons of Red Cobra Divers and even a few Eels.
Forget it Jake, it's Hisstank.
