It makes so little sense. Can you imagine how well a BAT 5 pack would sell? An Eel 5 pack? They would fly off the shelves. Hell a CP with 2 BATS or 2 Eels would also move. If they really wanted to sell toys, they could comic pack army builders with new figs, in other words, a BAT and Footloose, or an Eel and Covergirl. Those would fly off the shelves. HAsbro just doesn't ssem to have any idea what the public wants. I bought two Cobra Resolute Troopers today at Target. They must have 10 or more Mutts hangin out. 6 or so Cobra Flints. Cases should be 10 or twelve figs, one of each named character( i.e. Flint, Scarlet, Gungho) and multiples of army builders (Eels, Vipers, BATs) They would sell a lot more figs and save on shipping as many cases.
It doesn't make too much sense to me to release the single card army builder and wait 6 months until the 5 pack is released. The army builder folks have already gone crazy buying them up and have had their fill. (generally) Then the 5 pack comes out and they sit... I've been lucky so far as far as army builders go... Only thing I haven't really seen lots of are the EELS. |

The Eels and the Resolute Troopers were the toughest for me to get. I army build to ten of each troop. I eventually found as many as i wanted, but it did take longer to get the Eels and Resolute troops than any other army builders. Every army builder before the Eels was ridiculously easy to get. I was even building up to army's of twenty back then, but cut it back to save some cash and space.

Its interesting, Hasbro has no idea around the world, its not just a US problem.
Here in NZ we don't get the joes on shelves (maybe if hasbro opened up to more countries they might move more) but we do have the Transformers. Currently Hasbro is complaining here because no retailers will take any of the stock they have in their warehouse because stores are full of 07 movie figs (yes movie figs from 2 years ago) and crappy animated Tf toys that no one buys or wants (the ones kids all wanted have sold out months ago). No one buys them, stores don't want to restock on items that don't sell and Hasbro is left with warehouse full of toys they can't move to retailers. One would have thought Hasbro would learn from its mistakes in wave assortments, figured out what has sold and what isn't and focus stocks on the items that sell. A company the size of Hasbro should have learnt from feedback from retailers and over the years what to stock and produce. Obviously they know better than those selling the products ;-) |

"When is Hasbro going to learn that certain figures are going to sell better then others?"
Terrific question! |

So we hopped in the car and started a hunt through the various targets and walmarts. 4 hours later we picked them up 4 vipers, 2 wraiths and 2 water mocs. But no BATS anywhere. So went home and gave them 5 out of my 45 BATS i've been buying on the internet. They were happy.
As for Hasbro getting it, it is my dream to have Hasbro acknowledge the hardcore army builder fans, and sell mega-sets through their website (HTS). No frills, bagged figures, I am talking like sets of 10 or 20 of the same army builder figure. They could charge a little more or a little less per figure; it doesn't matter: the idea is that they leave more product on the shelves for actual kids to purchase and rightfully satisfy a loyal group of adult collectors at the same time.

Wow, it is great that you did this. Despite not being able to find the figures they wanted, you probably just made those guys some fond GI Joe memories for the rest of their lives.

As far as the mega sets, I'd love it too. Right now, if i can find it, i get my army builders in bulk for a single source. One time i was able to snag 8 Bats with whole card cut off leaving just the bubble for 4 bucks shipping. Another time i was able to buy 20 bats, 6 firebats, and 4 claws in a single order for 20 bucks shipping. If Hasbro would get on board with this, and leave all that fancy art crab off, us collectors would be very happy and have money left at the end of the day.
