Reading and replying to some of the "who still plays with their joes" threads, got me thinking about the battles and storylines I came up with as a kid. I can tell you that it almost always came down to a hand to hand melee. I can also tell you that I used to put together the dumbest damn teams ever...I'll clue you in, then I hope to hear your stories too...
The scenario I remember most was The Phantom/w Ghost Rider doing some recon, he would take Pysche-Out with him because..umm..I dunno, but I'll get to why it had to be Psyche Out in a bit.....So they fly over this swamp area which was my bed and get shot down by Cobra...Cobra's remote location was a pile of pilows littered with random cobra figures, vehicles and weapons. Oh and Iron Grenadier Destro ran the show.... Joes get a distress single and form the 1st team to go in and get to these guys before Cobra does...but its too late. Pysche-Out is already being beaten up like nobodys business..and not acting like a man at all. Psyche Out ALWAYS got taken hostage and got the crap beat out of him..ALWAYS..when you think of "he got the sh&t beat outta him" think of my Pysche Out. Ghost Rider is also being tortured by Buzzer and Monkeywrench...Destro looks on trying to get the stealth technology from the Phantom through a tortured Ghostrider. The Joes are enroute to the crashed Phantom via a Tiger Force Water Mocasin...heres team: Driver TF Duke, Gunner: Muskrat, along for the ride...Hit n Run and Beach head.......not bad right? Theyre battle begins and its team 2 who is supposed extract Psyche Out and Ghost Rider..heres Team 2..Snake Eyes (who doesnt count because he'll be double teamed by Storm Shadow and Firefly for the remainder of play time) Outback, Bazooka, Dusty, Lowlight, and heres the kicker...Blizzard. Why Blizzard? Because I loved Blizzard and kids are f'ing retarded, thats why..... Gun fight turns into huge fisticuffs..Outback seems strong enough to carry out both hostage Joes out and does, over the shoulder shooting his way back and the Joes are victorious... Back at Joe HQ Psyche Out is still getting beat up, why? He knows damn well everyone is looking to beat his ass, Cobra has tabs on that bad haircut. He shouldve been smarter and told Ghost Rider..look dude if I come, this billion dollar jet is totally gonna get shot down.....stupid. Anyway, I still have my vintage Psyche Out, I cant wait for a 25th so I can whoop his ass too........now how did YOU do it? |

I used to use my Water Moccasin as a torpedo in the snow.
That sucker zooms across fresh level snow like hot stink !!!

I can't really remember the details but my most epic battle took place aboard the Flagg. Apocalypse (the X-men figure) basically brought about the apocalypse, and the Joes aboard the Flagg were basically the only heroes left (they were out to sea!). The Joes then launched a final desperate battle against Apocalypse and managed to defeat Apocalypse due in part to his own hubris. Oddly, enough it was a lone Iron Grenadier TARGAT that played the most pivotal part and sacrificed himself to take out Apocalypse and to save what was left of the world.
This took days, maybe even weeks to conduct. Not bad for a twelve year old, I think.

It's not the battles I remember as much as the losses.
I remember it was fierce. I remember that good had won the day. What I remember most of all is that we would never see Shipwreck alive again. He was lost at sand. |

my night battles...it was the only good thing about the early 90's Joe toys...they looked badass in blacklight... except our squad of 12 Night Vipers...you couldn't see them at all, especially hidden in the demolished plastic that was a fake 9ft tall X-Mas tree (hehe)
Anyways, me and my friends would spend all day turning my basement in a multi environmental dio (basically) using whatever we could get our hands on. My old man made me a large multi leveld table to use for lego villages (I had it all back then, city, space, and knights) So what's the point? Don't give a 14 year old access to power tools. We made that table into a Joe Base, complete with lego elevators We'd go out for dinner, then come back and within a matter of hours, the basement (and Joes) were destroyed. Always the same scenario too...the 3 of us each had 6 man teams that were off on mission when Cobra attacks the Joes. A comm came to the away teams and they'd come back and clean house. My team? Lt. Falcon (w/ Night Force Sneak Peek body), Jinx, SE (V3 with V2 head), Low-Light (V2 with SE v3 head), NF Spearhead, and NF Crazylegs. ... No shotgun for Falcon, it was Downtown's .44 and Range Viper's grenade launcher... Remember the end of Miami Vice? They stole my idea.

My epic battles consisted of me stacking cardboard boxes up to make a Cobra headquarters. My Joe team would attack and eventually the entire thing would come down into a pile of rubble. CC would always escape, but all the other Cobras would get killed somehow.
