Most of the time the Hasbro mail aways come in polybags. For some reason I want to say that there was an image of Doc in a card at one point? I can't remember.

Here's my take on it.. Like what was said earlier.. Doc will onlt be worth what the collector deems it. As for it being worth $65 just because of all of the comic packs you have to buy to get him. Hmm.. sounds to me like someone purposely ran out and bought up several packs just for the sole purpose of turning around and selling the figures on Ebay and making a profit or just trying to make their money back.
I have bought at least 10 comic packs.. not a single one of them for the doc stickers. I bought them so i could have them and my extras are custom fodder. that fact that they are taking flagg points for this as well.. Geez, I've been collecting those flagg points since they redebuted back in 82' I found the box I kept them in and there has to be at least 2000 flag points if not more in there. So if I really need another Doc, which I don't...then I could send off those. The only way I can see me sending off for another figure after mine is to help out another Tanker who (Like also mentioned earlier) are unable to get even one due to lack of availability or whatever. And the only cost to them.. S&H.. No $65 deposit or crap like that.

Have mailaways been made in small amounts before? What I'm asking is if its been difficult to get mailaway items from Hasbro in the past? ie - A very limited amount made. You can go by what the form says but I would guess they put the same kind of info on all of their mailaways. I've never dealt with these in the past so I didn't know if anyone here has.

As mentioned above, with the fact that there isn't a limit on how many one can buy, maybe at one time, but you can send in as many forms as you like, I think there is going to be an abundance of them on ebay.
Also, they may bottom out at $10-20 depending on how many there are at one time. However, those that want the packs shouldn't miss out thus leaving even more available to the market. The only ones I can see not getting one directly are those who do not want the packs or foreign collectors. That narrows the demand market down while the supply market will be reasonable. The ones who will pay the most are the ones who gotta have it now when the first ones pop up for sale. |

I can't imagine this being any different since there will be tons of comic packs available. |

On a side note, I do pity those who keep one of everything carded. They would either have to buy 2 sets OR buy the comics at $65+ AND the Doc figure on ebay.

Compulsive.. My mother hated the fact that I was a pack rat.. I have an old cigar box that I decorated with the backs of carded figures (all of the square pics of the figures) as well as pictures from other things like catalogs and stuff. That is what houses all of my flag points. it is so full that the lid won't even close. LOL Just could never get rid of the thing and now it comes in handy if need be.
Back to doc.. You are also right on the fact that when something new comes out , some people have to be the first to have it at any cost. I remember being that way at one time. Kinda still am depending on what it is. (PS3, Xbox360Elite, Wii...you get the idea) It is all about having fun.. if the person didn't want it so bad, then they wouldn't pay the high price, like some of us on here. To them it's about having that one item that either 1): they never had 2): Had as a child or whatever and want it again for a collection or just to bring back memories. The point I was mainly making were the people who just purposely go out and buy the stuff up so that they can make a profit and possibly use this site as an index to feel the general consensus of what the going price would be so that they can fine tune their ebay auction. That just bugs me. Sell it for whatever you think it's worth to you... Put it on there at cost..see where it goes from there, you may be surprised how much more an auction like that sells for more than one that starts high.

I'm going to wait until Wave 2 comes out so that I can use all the stubs to buy 2x DOCs. If I get it in time, good, if not then I'll just move on. There's always going to be a must figure to collect (whether its 25th or RAH from the 80s). So I try not to get so fixated on one fish because, there's an ocean of fishes out there.

Now, Doc will be selling for $65-$100 at first. There is no doubt in my mind. Could that price drop eventually, yeah, but it's also just as likely it holds that high too. At this point it's all speculation until they start showing up on eBay or Seller's start taking "pre-orders". Last edited by WildWeasel; 01-09-2008 at 04:01 PM.. |
