I am thinning down my collection...I got rid of my GI Joe vs Cobra, Valor vs Venom (with exception of ARAH articulation figures from the 6 packs), and Spy Troops stuff due to the massive repaints and weird figure arm/leg articulation. Now I am finding out that more and more duplicates and repaints are being made for the 25th ann series. Not only the figures, but the vehicles are mostly the exact same as the original.
What I want to know from the GI Joe Community is how many of you ARAH Collectors started collecting the 25th Ann stuff but then stopped due to the massive repaints and reissues? My favorite is the ARAH series and I am trying hard to complete it. I like the 25th Ann but don't like the massive number of same reissues and repaints so I am undecided whether I should continue working on this series or not. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks. |

I collect the ARAH & 25th only.
ARAH: 82-89 loose and some MOC/MIB 25th: One loose of most everything and one single card MOC but due to a lot of the repaints, I now only keep select MOC single cards and I'm selective about my loose ones too. I'm not a completist (sp?) so I don't have a problem with picking and choosing for either line. I'm not collecting the movie line so I'll be able to concentrate on the vintage ARAH line and pick up the occasional 25th Modern Era fig that I like. |

I could have written the exact same thing you just did (except for I never got into the spy troops, GvC, etc)..
I love the vintage the most by far. The 25th line is very cool and does have many advantages as far as articulation, but there have been so many repaints and reused parts. Some of the 25th figures came out outstanding, but many range from half-assed to just downright insulting (I am thinking of Serpentor and a few others). I have been done with the 25th stuff for the most part for a while. There are only a few minor things I want to get. The newer vehicles, the movie line and the resolute stuff hold no interest with me. I've put my funds into finishing up my vintage collection instead and enjoy that much more...mostly for nostalgic reasons.

Would still like to collect vintage figures if the opportunity arises, but I am not going out of the way anymore to try and find vintage stuff.

i think everyone is coming to that conclusion. For me, i can't even look at the vintage joes without thinking how cartoony/inferior they look to the new detailed 25th

I have no vintage vehicles and the only vintage figures I have are of Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow. I only collect 25th era figures and will collect the movie line too. Vintage Joe's just don't appeal to me at all.
