So, to add to this great thread, I'll tell my story and fill you in a little more about Jerry. I contacted Honasty early Thursday morning after reading his thread. I was in Tampa, FL for work at the time and mapped the location. I was surprised to find he was an hour drive away! I was giving presentations that day and didn't think I could make it so I called Jerry and put in an order for the jets. A few minutes later, I spoke with the meeting organizer and found I had three hours in between presentations. What luck, one hour away and three hours to pick them up and get them shipped back home! I called Jerry and told him I would pick them up instead as I could ship them myself cheaper with my FedEx account.
Took me just under an hour and $1.50 in tolls to get there. I was expecting a hobby shop at an airport but that's not what I found! Click on the link for an aerial shot Google Maps. Jerry runs an aircraft painting and maintenance company. On the side he buys and sells models at train and aircraft shows. He's not as "old" as I had envisioned, just over 50 and strong as a horse. When I arrived, there was a guy working on a helicopter. I asked him where to go and he said round the side. This is the larger hanger in the map image. There was a nice covered area with patio chairs. I knocked on the door and Jerry greeted me. He's as nice in person as he is on the phone. He had a black poodle, white poodle and a gray cat. The poodles greeted me, they were really sweet dogs while the cat barely took notice. Right on his table he had the Falcon on display and had a few other models around his office. He took me into the hanger where he had a few bbi cases out. He had my jets out and I told him I needed them in their factory cases so I could ship them. He said no problem and went to another separate building/hanger. As I followed him, I saw a retired military jet inside! While I moved my car around, he came out of the hanger driving a fork lift stacked with bbi cases! I asked about the jet (forgot what it was, had intakes that looked like an intruder) but he said it was just too expensive to fly right now. He said at one time he had 100 of the bbi jets, not sure which he was referring to. He knew what they were worth on eBay, but didn't have the time to deal with managing it and preferred the hobby shows. We chatted about bbi and he must be in good contact with them as he knew quite a bit about rumored upcoming jets as well as one of bbi's plants in china shutting down. He's a hobbyist at heart and was happy to send the jets to people who would appreciate them. He had mentioned he'd been getting quite a few calls. I smiled and told him he would sell everything he had once word of mouth spread. He ran my card (after I politely asked for a discount for buying in quantity) and asked what else he had. He gave me a copy of his full price list, I need to find the earlier post with the inventory list and I'll add the pricing to it. He offered to help me load the boxes into my ridiculously small rental car but I declined. I left directly for kinkos, dropped the boxes off for shipping and made it back with almost 30 minutes to spare. I think I was high from the excitement of everything working out. Being in the right place, the right time and having the time to make it happen was just absolute fate. These are going to go great with my black hawk and apache. If only I had a 1:18th scale aircraft carrier, but 1:18 of a 1/4 mile would still be 62 feet! Hope you enjoyed reading the chronicle, it was fun living it! Wish I'd taken a picture of Jerry but I was in too much of a hurry to think about it. |

Three cheers to the HERO of this thread... HONASTY! Hip-hip HOORAY, Hip-hip HOORAY, Hip-hip HOORAY! I just wanted to officially THANK YOU in front of an audience. You saved me $900 on four BBI F-18 JETS of which I originally planned to accumulate over the next 60 days. You also taught me that opportunities are never missed, they’re just passed along! I haven’t heard back from you regarding the Bradley so I’ll just ship my gift out to you by Monday. As I said, no good deed goes unrewarded!
SHOUTOUT to Cold Slither and his $5 Apache that has put BBI in the forefront of HISSTANK. Tkjaer21 and his abundant collection that has converted so many, including myself. I see you pcsguy88, I like that army of Airbournes and ALL coffee tables should come with an BBI 1:18 Wolfpack F-16 - Man Law Amen BROTHER!!! |

That's a cool story! I'm glad he saved them for collectors
The shipping to CA from FL was high, but if the new jets come out I wouldn't mind buying from him in a heartbeat!

That's some great insight to this situation brock. I think we all envisioned an old guy in a dusty train shop. Glad to know Jerry is truly living the dream.
Thanks Mr. Focus for the shoutout, wait for progress pics on my chopper base. And thanks again Honasty for making so many collectors smile and so many wives cringe. |
