the only thing that you'd notice is that the hanguards are different. a1s are triangular and smooth, a2s are round and ribbed. the a1 is the older, more classic model.

The A1 also had semi and full auto capability. The A2 has semi and 3 shot burst.
I try to organize my troops into squads. I've been giving my regular troopers the classic Ak-47. Officers get the wirestock AKM. Elites (Stinger Driver, CGs) get the AK74SU. One squad member gets an RPK for light support (can barely hold the thing though). The Jetpack Trooper gets a P90 as a backup fo his laser blaster. Firefly got the HK G36K. CC gets the Walther P38 (Megatron). The ninjas get Mac10s and if you want them to be more light NightCreepers, give them the SOCOM pistol. The Baroness gets her Steyr AUG. I try to avoid giving Cobra obvious American weapons, to enhance the foreign/badguy feel. If the AKs feel too dated you can go all Euro and give them SA80s (British Army standard rifle) HK G36 (Germany), the FAMAS (French Army), or the Steyr AUG (Austrian, Austrailian, and Irish armies). Giving specialists the P-90 and the SIG 550. Not to mention the NVR rifle. If we ever get IGs, I'll be giving them SA80s and AUGs. My Joes get M16/203s, M4s (with various attachments), Lady Jaye got the Sig rifle, Flint switches between the Benelli shotgun and the M4/Shotgun combo. Stalker has had the M16A2, but lately he's been using the M16/203. I have to customize an M16A2 to give it the starlight scope and suppressor. Plus they get his 45 or Tactical pistol for their sidearms. MJs got so much good stuff, you have to work to go wrong. |

I hooked Firefly up with the SG 550, but I haven't decided what to do with the Air Troopers yet. |

i too don't care for the early 80's choice of weapons. it was fine 20 years ago but i'd like to think my soldiers have changed with time vs. being frozen in time thus i equiped all mine with german rifles.
i'm not saying everyone needs to do this but it's just my opinion and my choice for my army. new updated figures=new updated weapons Last edited by arch2b; 01-08-2008 at 01:52 PM.. |

I'm torn between the classic feel and the modern/tactical badassery. leaning more towards the former. makes me nostalgic and all warm and fuzzy inside. my vipers are all getting M41A pulse rifles though.

My figures down't exsist in real time... if they did the Joes would be in their 60's, lol. Kind of like the Simpsons and the fact that the kids never grow up.
I just use what looks cool.

I still go with AKs for my basic Cobra troopers, on the logic that it is the most readily available, easily maintenanced assault rifle in the world. My air trooper currently has the German rifle pictured above (more elite troop type, better equipment). Not sure what to do with my lone CG, or what I'll do for Vipers, but neither will carry AKs.
