So I need to organize my Joe collection. I am going to start by ordering a lot of acid free resalable bags. I was wondering what size would you recommend. Probably 3x5 or 4x6. What thinkness do you think is best? Also, what sites have you used to order this type of acid free bag from?
Because I also collect Marvel 4" figures I ordered 1000 6x6 and 1000 4x6. Most figures will use the 4x6 but more then a few of the Marvel guys needed the bigger bags, Hulk, Thing, Sinister, Apocalypse, etc. No Joes needed the 6x6, off the top of my head; If you need 100 4x6 let me know have plenty. I like the 4x6 instead of the 3x5 because all of the Joes will fit in the same size rather than buying a second size just for Joes. Marvel kind of hurt me there, but if you're just into Joes and want to be good with just one size the 4x6 will give you a little more room for the slightly larger figures like Boa, or 50th Leatherneck, anyone with a jetpack etc. I like the bags with the white section so I can label with a crisp new sharpie what's in there. If my family ever needed to sell them and I'm out of the picture they'll know exactl what to type as the heading for an Ebay listing, more practically it just helps me to remember what year they were released, if they were part of a set, carded, comic 2 pack, exclusive, if they are incomplete, etc. Quote:
Lastly I can't recommend GT Zip enough. I'm very happy with their ULTRA CLEAR line of bags, these are archival (no acid). As a first time buyer you can normally expect a phone call rom them shortly after delivery to ensure that you are happy with your purchase. It was a nice touch on top of a great product.

Just to give everyone a good gauge of how an average Modern Era Joe with a decent amount of gear fits with room to spare. This is the Ultra Clear 4x6 with the white tab at 2 Mil.
Also I keep my bagged lose figures in a 6qt Sterilite clear view latch top bins. You can fit 12 of these exactly per shelf (3 high 4 wide) on one of those cheap Home Depot plastic shelf storage systems for garages, the ones that go for about 30-35 dollars with the cylinder piping for supports between each shelf. The bins taper and stack very nicely and securely. You can get about 30 bagged figures (depending on accessories) in each bin without any fear of warping or smushing. Each shelving unit will hold 48 bins nicely but I use the bottom shelf for vehicles and the top of Side Shows figures.

The bags will yellow over time depending on the environment they are in and potentially the acid in the bag may yellow the plastic of your toy. Sorry no pics on my end. You might avoid this by just replacing your bags every few years but I'm no plastics pro.

so how important is the vent hole? I have my entire collection bagged in their ultra-clear 3"-5" baggies...but no vent hole.
It seems like (for long-term storage) you would want to keep air out, right? I don't get it....can anyone explain? thanks! |

If you search there was one Very informative Tanker who wrote at length the properties of different plastic as found in the toy realm. It's was very informative. I forget the name of the tread try searching the forums for yellowing figures. In the post the Tanker goes into detail about te bags as well.

How much do these bags weigh? 1000 count is coming in at $16+ for shipping from either get zip or that crafts store linked above.
Does any place other than Gt Zip sell the 4x6" vent holed bags?

I need to get bags for my vehicles. That ebay seller has GTZIP 12x12 bags which will fit many of my vehicles but won't do the job for some of the larger ones. (Think the size of the Cobra Rage for example) Any good sources to get acid free zip bags in larger sizes. Quantity of 100 is okay, a 1000 is far too many and too expensive.
