Perusing through Target today and low and behold there is the Joe Target Exclusive GIGANTOR Battle Pack. I actually did a double take because I'd written one of those off since the "Target clearance reduction of '09" happened and every store sold out of them in 5 minutes.
I grab it, and keen to the ways of Target and Walmart decide I better check the price before I take it up to pay for it. The price scanner reads zero. So I'm thinking they must have purged it from their system (I used to work at TRU years ago and understand how these things work, or at least have a guess based on my previous experience). I take it to this nice guy and he checks it on his handy scanner and it comes back the same, zero. Then he tells me its been purged and that it will be the last price he was showing for it which was $15. MONEY, I'm thinking....AWESOME finally got my hands on one since I wasn't able to "rush out from my parents basement" and go grab one. (That was kind of a cheap shot for all you younger HISS tankers that still live at home...or HISS tankers regardless of age that still live at home, but let's face it...by the time I heard the news and could actually get to a Target, due to my own daily obligations, I didn't stand a Joes chance of getting hit by laser fire in the cartoon of getting my hands on one of these for that price. It was such a phenomenal deal though I had to try right!?!? At least I'm still not bitter about it...haha) Now let me just explain something about the "want" factor of this for me. I didn't really want it when it came out, overall, and I definitely didn't want it for $80 freakin' dollars. I'm not a repaint guy, and besides the Joe tank and the Destro I didn't really want the other figs etc. Call it my way of collecting I guess and I bought the Destro for my personal collection off of Ebay since it was the only real figure I had to have out of the bunch. I have a buddy that did want them though, and he collects pretty much all the Joe stuff. The day I did get a chance to go out and look for one when the story first broke I called him on the way and asked if he wanted to split the cost which he was fine with. Yeah, about $8 for a tank and some figs, I'm thinking this is an EXCELLENT deal, which it was, and plus both of us get to get some cool things for our collections. All Targets but one of them are out of stock (surprise, surprise) in my area. The other one, doesn't mark down their stuff for about 2 days after the others and won't price guarantee from their own freakin' brand name stores in the same state! Ridiculous! Not only that, but the one I found them at had 2 of them....so for another $7 a piece my buddy and I would both have a full set. Would have been so great! The one I found today had OBVIOUSLY been taped back up and returned to the store. I mean this thing looked like a 4 year old had put it back together...the tape and outside box that is. The products inside actually looked VERY decent and everything was still strapped down with the little ties, etc. The only thing that worried me was that the Cobra Commander didn't have a helmet and neither did the Trooper. I was trying to recall though if they had them in the first place from the first time I saw them. I knew they were included but I couldn't remember if they were wearing them in the display....what did I care anyways...I was getting the Joe tank and Steeler, + whatever my buddy and I decided to split up past that for about $8....my Saturday was going excellent so far! Back to today..... So I take it up and I'm waiting in line, ready to tell the cashier that its going to be kind of weird since it's purged etc, etc. Before it's my turn...this Target employee lady comes up and tells me she has to confiscate it from me, that its not an item they sell any longer, and that I couldn't buy it. I just stood there looking at her for a second, trying to think if it was appropriate to blow up in a Joe Collectin' Rage on her in front of all these people. She repeated herself like I was mute or something....again, I just stood there, getting more and more mad by the second. She then reaches across me to the belt and takes it off the checkstand and walks off. That was the end of my glorious Joe hunting February 21st. It started fantastic yesterday too....found the new Cobra 5 pack AND the new Resolute 5 pack. Guess I should have known the getting was too good. So with all that said, I freaking hate Target but I know I'll end up there again soon. They seem to be the only ones in my area that are starting to get Joes consistently. Wasn't supposed to sound like a pity party but I just thought I would share my "wonderful" latest Target experience. Cheers..... |

I would have made a stink.. but I guess since its not in the system now.. ehhh.
Pretty lame if you ask me, I'd ask to speak to the manager for an explanation why they wouldn't want your money.

So you just let her walk away with it? I would have told her that is too bad, if it isn't supposed to be for sale, it should not have been on the shelf. Being as someone who works in retail, if something is on the floor, and someone wants to buy it, you have to sell it to them by law.

That's when you get a manager and have them contact a district manager. If it's on the sales floor it's on sale. I know why she took it. The product would have rung up as 1 cent in the register. It's the stores responsibility to remove these items from the shelves when they are recalled by corporate.

I guess I had forgot or just not known about any of those things (kind of funny from my comment about knowing a thing or two about how these clearance things worked, haha) regarding my rights as a customer. I was mostly thinking they were just going to hit me with the "right to refuse service" to anyone...and yes I was wearing shoes and a shirt! Still, so f'ing lame, I'm still pissed about it. That store almost totally f'd my buddy over the big Millenium Falcon when they marked that down too. That's another long post for a different day. In the end it turned out good as he had the one person with some common sense do what they told him they would do and he was able to get it for his sons birthday at the discounted price.
Like I said, I never TOTALLY wanted the set, but for that price I couldn't pass on it. I never had that tank growing up and I thought it would be pretty wicked to have it now for my vehicle-less display. Anyways, thanks for hearing me blow off some steam..... Cheers! |

Wow what a piece of literature. Funny thing though... I was at a Target today and the asked customer service guy if they had anymore UBPs. The ones around home sold out early on, but I know some stores actually dropped the prices when these things started overheating shelves. Why not try my luck, right? The guy behind the counter punched it into his fancy scanner and said no. Then outta no where comes this guy practically skipping down the aisles with one that'd seen better days. I sneered, pulled my chin up high, and said "Bring me... that one." and clapped my hands to make it known I meant business.
Much to my surprise, it worked! And for a moment I felt like a Jedi. So, and this is the best part... the woman at the checkout just takes the thing from the guy buying it and walks over with my new UBP. At this point I'm tempted to instruct her to go back and spit on him for good measure, but decide not to press my luck. Anyway, the guy behind the counter brings up his scanner and it doesn't read, natural since the item was no longer inventoried. They asked if I happened to know the price. I shrugged, and go, "Well, I know the last exclusives I bought were like ten bucks." And wouldn't you know it, they sold it to me for $10! Of course, I got a funny look from the pair as a sinister chuckle slipped from my lips. But I'll never see those jerks again, I'm just here on business.
