I bought what was supposed to be a MOC 1991 (or 92 according to Mark Bellomo's book) Duke. When I got him today, his knife, cannon stand, and rifle are broken to pieces INSIDE the packaging. The rifle has the ammo box, handle, and crosshairs on the same side as Duke, while the backpiece to the gun is stuck atop the missile launcher, and the rest of the rifle, which is in 2 pieces, is stuck at the bottom of the launcher. Is something like this even possible? It seems like to me that this had to have been previously opened and reglued with extreme skills.

Why would someone reglue a package with a broken gun? I doubt they did.

Then you come up with a better explanation.

That's just it, it looks perfectly fine minus a small tear scar in the upper left hand corner of the square equipment bubble.

I do believe it is possible. I bought some Captain Power figures not too long ago and some of the weapons in the package broke up as a result of the plastic weakening over the years. They were broken IN the package of a MOC figure, so yes... This can and has happened.

I had the same thing happen with a Skeletor (This was during the "He-Man in space" era)
Also, I know that some of the plastic used for Joes during that time can get really brittle. The gold accessories for Firefly for instance, are so brittle, I've had them break apart in my hand. The odd thing is that during the same time, some of the plastic just won't break (I think purple was one of them) |
