But the entire line ended clearanced for PENNIES on the dollar (the amazing $30 RHINO ended up in the $10 range!). Hasbro is NOT going to go through that mess again. Mattel is making Masters of the Universe work...for now. BUt what happens in another year when all the core stuff is done? Will Extendar and Sy-Clone really generate the same interest as guys like STratos, Man at Arms, or He-Man and Skeletor? You look at EVERY collector line based on GI Joe or Transformers, or STar Wars, and you see a LOT of the "core characters" repeated between those lines and the mass retail action figure lines. Sideshow's first batch of figures have been Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, Cobra Trooper, and Storm Shadow. Aside from the Trooper, all three of those are characters fans are COMPLAINING about getting in the mass retail line (disregarding that they DO sell). At this point, EVERY major A-list characters has seen at least two major releases, as have many b-list characters. All we have left are the c and D list people who have VERY limited appeal to even collectors. Certainly not enough to pay $10+ per figure.

I believe the movie line WILL go the way of Indy.
I'm still heartborken over the liberty's that we're taken with the Vipers.

I think it'll go the way of the Spider-Man 3 toys rather than Indy.

What I really don't understand is why doesn't hasbro see G.I. Joe as marketable as Star Wars, there are technically an infinite number of characters a vehicles to choose from, the mythos is long enough to go on at least for ten years before they need to pump out more stories or plots and cast members. There was a character on here that said and I quote, "Hasbro could release Lady Jaye dressed as Tinker Belle and I'd buy that shat!" Wouldn't we all? Except for Space, I recall he doesn't get all the different versions of characters. But think about it. All of the Joes dressed in their respective branches uniform, civilian clothes, Cover Girl dressed as a Cover Girl. Baroness in that sexy pink bathing suit from The Collector episode. All the Oktober Guard. All The Red Shadows. All the Dreadnocks. Playsets up the ying-yang. The Arena of Ssssport for example. (I know Cobra Coffee would scoop that up in a heart .) Castle Destro is another. A newly revised G.I. Joe headquaters much like that customizer with the huge basement has done. I'm not blind I realize Hasbro has to walk a very fine line between satisfying what makes good marketing sense and what makes sound economic sense. I'm telling you right now, the action figure isles are rarely populated with kids, unless there is a cool cartoon or movie, otherwise it's out of sight out of mind. My point is Hasbro should never make the mistake of thinking if they put out quality product of Joe, Transformers, Star Wars, that it won't sell, but remember I did say quality. Most of can agree the new movie figures are not on par with quality like our beloved modern era line. For example, I showed my ten year old nephew a carded BAT figure I have and a picture of the new Mars Trooper. I asked him, "which one would you rather play with,"? He said, "The BAT figure cause it's accessories are cooler", I told him the hand detaches to add those accessories and that sealed the deal. . . I rest my case.

Hasbro already tried going direct to consumer with GI Joe once. All said, the first 6 months of DTC Joe saw more product released than 25th did!

I keep hearing that G.I Joe is here to stay. I agree. It won't disappear. But my love for G.I Joe doesn't prevent me from learing the lessons made by past frachises. I'm just saying that it might be time for those of us who grew up walking down the toy aisle with this toy's r us commercial awe and wonder idea in our head, might need to get over it. It's only slightly harder to get my wallet out of my back pocket while I'm sitting on it in front of the computer than it is to pull it out while I'm standing at a register.

In a few words, hell yeah! I would buy within seconds of release of an Extendar figure. Loved that old toy.
