the real problem is the case assortments, if Hasbro does to Joe what they did to Indy the will f@$k themselves once again. I was able to get the Temploe of Doom, but in that assortment were 6 new figs and 6 of the same crap that was on the shelves two months earlier.
Hasbro does this all the time, not enough movie transformers okay we will send armada toys form a year ago instead, oh you want the new marvel legends well here take 6 cases of crap that wont sell and then we will give you a case of new stuff. As a retailer this makes it stupid to deal with, its always a bait and switch. Even Star Wars lines are sent with the same effect, want the new wave, order the new wave, receive an old wave. In short Hasbro's perception of distribution is very distorted from the truth. Anyone want a case of Spider-Man 3 movie figs that are a completely different scale than any other toy line? |

If Hasbro had marketed the Indiana Jones line to collectors, it never would have come out. Hasbro still has, and always will consider itself a seller of children's toys. The adult collector market is a nice side bonus, but it's not where they consider their bread to be buttered.
Retailers, by and large, are the same way. |

If the toyline/movie bombs, then Hasbro may take a few steps back to build a new strategy while the retail outlets forget how unsuccessful it was. In this case, we may not see Joes at major retail outlets for a bit of time. But we may still see online exclusives depending on how the 7 pack sets perform.
But that's only if the movie and toyline tank. I do not have a lot of faith in the guy directing the film, but I think it will do okay if it is no more than a PG rating (got to draw the young kids to buy the toys). |

I'm pretty sure it'll be a PG-13. That's the "magic rating" in Hollywood these days. Makes the adults and teens "feel" like it might be grown-up enough for them to enjoy, but is still "tame" enough for many parents to take the kids to.
It certainly didn't hurt the success of the Transformers movie or toys. |

My perception of the indy toy bomb was the distribution. Every store around me got a ton of cases of the same few figures. Who needs 3 indy's and 4 mutts? As long as the same marketing scheme isn't used and stores don't end up with 100 dukes and ripcords, things should work out ok.

Indiana Jones toys failed for many reasons -- it had no significant history or presence as a toy, and its audience may not have been significantly comprised of toy consumers. sorry, George, you may be making your movies for kids now, but that doesn't necessarily mean that is who is watching them. G.I. Joe does not have that problem.

GI Joe is one of Hasbro's pillar toy lines. In one shape or another it will always be around.

I doubt bloodless, robot on robot violence with minimal vulgarities and probably no use of the F word would generate an R rating.

If the movie sucks, the movie toy line may suffer, but the 25th line is selling strong as it is, so they'd obviously go back to what works. Why would they scrap GI Joe altogether?
