I find online to be less of a hassle than retail around here. place your order and wait for it to be shipped to your door. how is that a hassle? online stores have gotten things quicker than retail around here. it's easier than driving around hunting for something all the time. to each his their own I suppose.

Hasbro was actively soliciting the items in these 7-packs as single packs and comic packs or vehicle packs as recently as the holiday season, so it's pretty obvious that this resurrection into these two 7-packs is a very recent occurrence. Justin |

I believe that Hasbro is playing the timing game. If these Wave 5 vehicles, and last waves of modern stuff had come out as scheduled, it's likely they would have ended up on clearance before the movie stuff, especially if they had come out Dec/Jan. and retailers would have been hesitant to place any orders for more, or for the movie stuff.
By timing it this way, the retailers get a fresh NEW movie line to place on the shelves. Orders will be high, which is what Hasbro wants. The 7-pack is Hasbro's way of releasing those figures that people were anticipating, without the risk of clearance, or lower retail expectations. As of this week, I've seen the Resolute 5-pack, and the new Joe & Cobra 5-packs at Walmart and TRU. The multi-pack seems to be the "safe" business model for Hasbro to use now. Lower retail cost, lower production cost. I like the idea of internet exclusive 7-packs, as long as the QC is better than the extreme conditions packs. personally I'm looking forward to what all comes out this year, regardless of movie, resolute or modern. |

It's not speculation at all. We saw fully equipped press pictures of the two 5-Packs two months ago. We just barely saw half-assed, non-accessoried press pictures of the 7-packs last weekend. That's pretty clear as to when each was ready and prepped for distribution. The 5-Packs have G.I. Joe and COBRA Stalwarts like Flint, Snake Eyes, COBRA Commander, and Storm Shadow, while the biggest name in the 7-packs is Dr. Mindbender and Recondo. They're not even in the same ballpark. The figures themselves have been in the works for a while, but as several separate installments, which the retailers have evidently turned down.

Well, yeah, that's my entire point. Outback and Strato-Viper were kicking around as vehicle drivers. Retailers decided they didn't want them in that capacity, so Hasbro worked them (as well as many other figures) into 2 7-packs so the figures could at least get in collectors' hands. The figures were in the works, but blending them into the two 7-packs is something done very recently, and for that reason they couldn't just push these out to retailers in place of the 5-packs as you suggested.

I partially agree with both camps. There are valid points on both sides. We're getting something awesome, yes, but it's also bittersweet because it's the end of the line for the time being.
And I think it is silly to simply just kiss Hasbro's ass. It's not as "blind" a leap as some people seem to think. It's not 1982, and with all the outlets for consumer feedback nowadays(uh, nerd message boards like this?), Hasbro can get a good idea of what people want way ahead of time. So retailers won't buy these... Okay, Hasbro knows they'll sell though, so go online only, and perhaps adjust production slightly. I prefer online sales, but I feel for those who don't or can't buy online. Why can't people just have opinions, good of bad, without someone chastizing them about their opinion? |

well said and I'll end on that note. Like I said, I don't want to argue over toys. I had enough of that over at your other board Hawk

It's equally silly to demonize a company for putting out a nice product that they really didn't have to (they could just as easily have worked these characters into being vehicle drivers in the movie line, or waited until after the movie to issue them on single-cards).
It's also silly to demonize a business for the practice of...doing business the way business is done these days. Nobody's saying anyone has to "Kiss Hasbro's Ass." Nobody here owes Hasbro anything and Hasbro doesn't owe us anything. They put out a product, and we as individuals choose to buy it or not. But there are plenty of people acting like anyone working at Hasbro is a blight on humanity that exists solely to torment adult collectors of children's toys. That's an exceedingly silly notion. Listen, there's really only ONE way this can be answered.
Hasbro knew better than to not release these packs. Why? They're not hisstank 7 packs. They're not ToyArk 7 packs. They're COBRA ISLAND 7 packs. Hasbro knows that they would feel my simian wrath if these weren't released. There. ~Fin~ |
