I'd love to see the classic. I honesty dig Chuckles a lot. I'm not going to piss and moan though. This is a figure I wanted but never thought I'd get to see so I'll take him anyway I can get him.
You never know though. These are just hand painted models, not the final production run figs. They may change it around.

This new one makes me glad I had just finished my custom. I may headswap, but I'm happy with what I made and he'll be the one toeing the line with my joes.

I'm a huge Chuckles fan. He's probably in my Top 25, if not my top 10... I always loved the espionage aspect of the Joe team.
Classic Chuckles was a great figure, and I couldn't help but notice the similarity to Magnum P.I. Chuckles original shirt was fun, but the sculpt made him look fat, and his eyes were baggy... to be honest, the original Chuckles looked like he had down syndrome. It was a great idea, and his little belt/holster and pistol were really cool, but he wasn't the best looking sculpt.
Enter NEW Chuckles
1. - His pants/boots are a great choice. It's the same Olive Drab pants, but they look crisp, and the knife sheath is a perfect substitute for his machete. As a covert operator, he would need a knife way more than a machete. The boots look great.
2. - The Head looks fantastic. No more puffy eyes, not more blank stare. No more down syndrome. Sort of a darker/sandy blond. Really well done.
3. - Shirt: Love it. The old shirt was great, but it wasn't the greatest Hawaiian shirt of all time. Magnum wore a different Hawaiian shirt all the time. The specific color of the shirt was never a huge issue for me (it was often drawn differently in the comic), it was just the novelty that he was the only Joe who wore a Hawaiian shirt. He's still wearing one, and it seems that they've struck a great balance between honoring the character's past, but also taking a realistic approach to his specialty. That outfit totally works: he needs to run an operation? Good to go.
He needs to blend in? No problem, just untuck the shirt, unblouse the boots, and take of the gloves - suddenly he's just a tourist.
I'm so thrilled with the new chuckles. I can't wait.
Also, Chuckles' new torso looks very fit. He's not as "Big" as he was in the Marvel comic, but it's pretty close to the DDP - which did a phenomenal job with the character in Frontline. The old toy looked fat - the buttons on the shirt were literally stretched around his stomach. This torso is fit and it works really well.
4. - Arms/gloves: Well, this is the one low point on the figure, but if he's an undercover operative, he would need gloves... he probably carries them in his back pocket. He wouldn't wear them all the time, but he would need them often. He's got to maintain a cover - he can't be going around leaving fingerprints everywhere. The arms are muscular and they look great with the rest of the figure. If they threw in a spare set of hands, that would be perfect but I'm probably picking nits.
So I'm VERY excited about Chuckles. Thank you, Hasbro. The only figure in the set I'm not thrilled about is Zap, and that's because I would have rather had Repeater or Claymore - but that's just me.
Why aren't there more Joes from the Deep South?
And would it kill Hasbro to give us a Marine Corps Officer?

Chuckles, meh. I wish there was a "don't care" option, but as far as how I like my 25th Joes (yes, whoever called them "25th" is still correct, it's the same freaking line, no matter what you call it... "Modern Era" sounds stupid) to be as close to the original as possible.
However, Chuckles I assume changes shirts occasionally, and since I'm not a huge fan of this guy, I'd say that it's tolerable. Why they can't just make the collector's happy is beyond me. Anyone who wants a Chuckles and is a fan of Chuckles is 9 times out of 10 going to want the Chuckles they're used to, so why bother reinventing it?
Very few of these figures have changed drastically from their classic versions, and most changes haven't bothered me too much. Just changing for change's sake is sort of off-putting to the people who have supported this line for 25 years, though.
Anyways, the most awkward figure if you ask me is the Zap... I hope his body construction gets more tightened up before it reaches production, because the one now looks ill-assembled.

I LOVE Chuckles, but I voted for the modern version, or at least what we've seen from the upcoming 7 pack. I think the new version looks sweet. I'd love both to be honest, but the new gloved version with darker colors looks great in my opinion and saves me the toruble of having to choose between the two of them.

It's a modern line. Few figures are truly faithful to their original counterpart, instead being made better than they used to be. I for one like this Chuckles. I'ma big Chuckles fan and can't wait for this figure. I appreciate those who prefer their joes to be exact, but I prefer the old look updated. That is to say that they are faithful to the "look" of the figure but have upgraded them to make them a little more modern.
In ths cheme of things, this is small, especially since Hasbro is the repaint King. Don;t get down on yourself, we'll see a truer representation of Chuckles eventually. Even if we don't, it could have been worse. We may not have gotten one at all.
