I dont know if its just me, but ever since I was young, from movies, action figures, to cartoons, I always collected the bad guys/evil figures. Example: Gi Joe, Star Wars, MOTU, Transformers. Why are the bad guys so much cooler looking and have a more impressive appearance???

Because they're more interesting. They have more going on behind the scenes. A good guy is just one thing, good. A bad guy is complex, they were victims once and then turned evil, or in some cases they're evil incarnate and seem more mythical than anything else.

Bad guys for me, as evidenced by my high cobra to joe ratio.

Put it this way, the only Joe stuff I get I turn into Cobra stuff very shortly after I get it(Vamps, Ram Cycles, Scarlet, etc.).

Bad guys are always better. They have less limits. They live out the scenarios and fantasies that we only wish we could get away with. Plus, I love the good guys being outnumbered by a lot.
For me, Enjoying the bad guys also helps me appreciate the good guys more as well. If that makes sense? It's hard to explain I guess. Maybe its because the good guy has to fight his instinct to kill, his hatred, his lust for revenge, etc, etc. He has to push himself above and beyond to come out victorious and do the right thing. I know it doesn't always go that way but, those that do, I just respect them that much more. Being a bad guy is just easier, its in our nature to be bad. It doesn't take near as much effort to not give a crap than it does to care. |

There's something quite beautiful about serried ranks of faceless minions...
I buy my Cobra's in units of 6 whenever I can, Joes; just one of each...

There is so much more variety when it comes to the bad guys. Good guys tend to be boring and not much different from each other.
I think this is why ninja turtles action figures in the 80's were such a big hit. The good guy mutants could easily pass for bad guys. Lots of variety. |
