Does anyone know what the difference in colors mean, if anything or are they just comic & cartoon versions? I have been watching the cartoon collection and have noticed a TON of Cobra Officers compared to Troopers so far.

Not exactly, PK.
Yes, there's a silver sigil Cobra trooper. Originally, waaaay back in '83, this was packed with the VIPER-GLIDER, back before there were any Viper Soldiers. What it looks like to me is, the silver logo denotes that those particular cobra troops are jump-rated. That is to say that the silver symbol is like jump-wings on a regular US soldier. The officer is denoted by the triangle on the helmet, but not all officers have silver symbols. Now if this is the case, why do the Jetpack troops have RED sigils? I believe that a red mask is used to differentiate within the ranks of Cobra's Air force (why not?) and that the "comic color troops" (i.e. the legions troopers and Jetpack troops) represent the regular Cobra Air Force guys. Within that group, Silver Sigils only make it onto pilots. Likewise, the regular Army Cobra troops with red masks may be certified to operate the Cobra FANG. This would allow them a flight rating, but since you only see gyrocopters with ejector seats in the cartoons, they would not have to be jump certified. Confused?

So the short answer is, no. The silver sigil troopers are not necessarily of higher rank than the red ones. They're just regular troops who are certified airborne troops.
