I was always a huge fan of the 1985 design of Snake-Eyes, but obviously not as much as I thought since I did not even realize that the Wave 1 version was NOT actually based off the original except for the head. Wow, I finally went to compare the DVD pack one with the W1 version, while looking in detail at the picture in Mark Bellomo's Joe guide, and realized, the 85 version is closes to the DVD pack. DOH!

I much prefer the Wave 1 version myself - much better looking and more realistic.

See, I go based on how they looked in the toon as default canon designs. If they weren't that way in the toon, they shouldn't be that way as a toy. Hence why I personally think the single packs of Ripper and Torch are superior than the comic packs. I'm just happy Serpentor is getting closer to the toon, but you know, third times the charm. Plus the DVD pack Snake-Eyes is not just the same body as 82 SE but painted gray.

What's even funnier is that the much beloved 1985 version almost every fan loves has a mouth molded on it Well actually it looks a bit more like a mouth with fabric covering it, but still, what is the number 1 complaint about Snake-Eyes in Sigma 6 and the movie? Yeah

Version 3 is my favorite also. I always wondered if the Marvel comic artists had any say in the toy designs or did Hasbro provide a spec design sheet so the artists knew how to draw them?
I remember the first Marvel comic featuring a Crimson Guard, and the artist drew the CG like a HISS tank driver. I always imagined the artist only had a story reference to a red uniformed cobra soldier and the only Hasbro reference at the time was a red HISS tank driver. It's hard to use the Marvel Comics as canon for costume designs or color, as the comic colorists were very inconsistent... Also, I think the GI Joe universe really doesn't have a solid canon, unlike the Star Wars mythos. For me personally, Larry Hama stories are my GI Joe canon. |

i do my own universe, crystal ball and zartan are like gypsy mistics, theres a rift in cobra who have conquered most of the world and are in a civil war serpi and cc, and destros faction is funding it, posturing to take on the winner. nemisis enforcer is an experiment of mindbenders, gi joe is an insurgent force basicaly trying to reclaim the cobra confederate states in the previously "united" states of america. so frag it, cannon be damned!
