they make look better , but by means are not durable in comparison to arah.
i will state that the 25th line are not toys, but meir statues or models. detail or durability ? most 25th figs either dont stand up right, cant hold their guns properly, and acessories such as helmets dont even snap in place. yeah they look cool, but where does the toy part come into place? I have many faults with the line but I do enjoy collecting them. However, as far as play value goes they suck. Just this week I gave my 5 year old son a bunch of various 25th figures and within 24 hours of play they were all loose, floppy and looked like they had years of play on them. He loves them (I'm in trouble now ) but they ain't built to last like the old guys were. |

I wish I hate 25th line too so I don't have to spend money, but the fact is they way better than the org. ARAH in term of details and articulations.

This thread is like going into a police convention and asking the crowd if they don't think that mustaches make you look like a tart.

The point is, comparing the two lines is a useless exercise as the methods and tools to produce each are immensely different. Each has their merits and are quality lines. Bashing one another for opinions on "which is better," just causes rifts on the site and is frankly irritating.

Seriously? What is this "(which look worse)" crap? Are you forgetting these lines are separated by 25 YEARS!? The vintage line was ground breaking stuff at the time! Nothing like them had ever been seen before. Realistic army toys with compatible vehicles and play sets, an eight fool long carrier, space shuttle complex, F-14 etc. Comparing the look of the two lines together is like comparing the first apple computer (which also came out 25 years ago) to a brand new MAC Book laptop. The technology and materials used has changed drastically, as well as the techniques involved in producing them. Most of us were small children when the original ARAH line came out (and some were not even born yet). Of course the sculpts on the new line are more detailed and there is more articulation--we're in a whole different technological era. There were hardly any personal computers, no cell phones (people actually had to be home to make or receive a call) there were primitive computer programs to help with toy design, but they were in their infancy.
The point is, comparing the two lines is a useless exercise as the methods and tools to produce each are immensely different. Each has their merits and are quality lines. Bashing one another for opinions on "which is better," just causes rifts on the site and is frankly irritating.

I think the ARAH-styled figures are the second-best anymore, behind the 25th revised sculpts...
The stuff in-between was just hokey to me, simply for the fact that their body proportions were SO ridiculous. Triangular torsos, with shoulders 3 times as wide as their hips? It's like Byzantine art—at some point in history, for just a bit, folks forgot what people looked like. The 25th were hands-down the best action figure sculpts of their time. Fast forward 25-27 years, and I think the 25th Joes are tied with Marvel Legends in their own respective size-class as the best posable figures out there. When I stand a 25th Joe next to its ARAH counterpart, the 25th looks pretty much like a normal adult, and the ARAH figure looks either like their kid in a bad halloween costume, or a blow-up doll version of the 25th version. I love both, but I'm glad for the 25th line, because about a year ago, all my classics burned up, and instead of buying them all back AGAIN (which took forever to get them all in the first place) I was happy to get the better-sculpted, better-articulated, semi-available-in-stores, complete, boxed versions. For now, the ARAH figures serve only as a check-list for what 25th figures that I want to see made as updates to their original sculpts. I want all the ARAH guys redone in 25th style. Who cares if they smartly reuse some parts? As long as they look PRETTY close, I don't care if the vest pockets have only 2 pockets versus 3, or if someone's shoulder comm-link is now on the other shoulder... 99% of the new sculpts are pretty good re-imaginings of their old duds, with some flaws, but more or less vast improvements. The only times I'd rather them just not make the figure is in cases like Leatherneck or Cutter, which are massive failures if they aren't done right. I love them all man. If it wasn't for your vintage stuff you wouldn't see these redone versions of your favorite characters. I was looking at some of the joes last night and they captured me all over again. Yeah there are some gripes but there was with the old line too. My thumbs and pelvic areas used to break on my old figures. I don't like new Duke arms and Roadblocks left hand but they are still cool looking.

I collect it all! But I'm really gettin (GOT) more of a soft spot for my 25th figures more then any of the other molds I have. I think I really like the detail put into the 25th line I guess. |
