I'll be done if I can ever find a Cobra Diver so I can get the blue MASS element. Then I can, uh, eat the figure? Sure. Is that what you're supposed to do with 25th toys?
I dunno where the person who said their pegs were starting to fill up with figures lives, but they've been bare in Columbus, Ohio since the first wave died off. It hung around for a few months, but everything after that flies off the shelves (except Buzzer...). Robowang (Anyone collect the divers and have extra MASS elements?) |

To answer this question it made me think of WHY I'm not grabbing all the figures, or have a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to continuing collecting.
For me, it's never been about getting them just to have a full collection. I made that mistake with the POTF Star Wars line and have a sh** ton of those figures collecting dust in my garage. Those were bought as something I foolishly saw as my retirement. Now I can't even sell them for $.99 a piece on Ebay! It's ALWAYS been about getting the figures I cherished growing up and then any cool additional figures they may make. When I say cool, I mean COOL like for instance that were from the cartoon that were never made before or COOL figures like the Resolute CC. I mean seriously for all the CC's they've given us so far, which are minor detail changes or repaints of a previous version, it took them until the Resolute line for a collector like me to finally be impressed and give them kudos for a job well done. I would have to say that about September of last year though I kind of got fed up with what they were producing. Here and there the figures were great, BLOWTORCH is coming out...FINALLY! Let's look at what else they've been putting out though!? For me it even goes as far as not being true to something when there is no reason you couldn't do it right. For example, the Arise Serpentor Arise DVD pack was quite lame. Let me say, I've NEVER been a big fan of Serpentor but when you include a Dusty figure and that lame skeleton figure....that's gouging and I'm sorry, that REALLY irritates me. People wanted Dusty, which I understand and agree with completely, but I'm 99% sure he doesn't even show up in that cartoon series once...so why package him in there. Well because they knew they could sell it that way and that collectors wanted their Dusty figure. Wouldn't it have been much cooler for us as collectors to get Dusty in a single card. Oh wait, that's coming right? That's another thing that has irritated me, package them once, don't reissue or repaint them, get your money Hasbro, and let's all move on. The CC issue I stated above is another irritation of mine on their part and I can't believe how they keep pumping them out. I love going to the aisles and seeing nothing but CC's and Wild Bills! Truly, how great is that...we get the cowboy that should have been packaged with a Dragonfly only, and we get the CC that has a hood. Or wait, this one is cartoon correct, or this one has the chrome face finally, or something like the one that is in black in the 5 pack. COME ON! Why don't you put out something original that would sell like mad (probably) like an updated Shipwreck from the comics. You know, one that doesn't look like he's from the Village People (it's a classic fig...I know that, and was one of my fav's growing up, but I could never bring myself to buying one). Another example for me would be Zartan and the Dreadnoks but after that 2 pack ordeal (because I'm a MOC guy) and then news of the single card Torch and Ripper (I prefer single card over anything in any line) I got pissed and returned my 'noks and won't get them again. It's GOUGING and it's deceitful for Hasbro to do this crap and you can't tell me they didn't have plans ahead of those times for upcoming releases! What about that Sharc they put out at Target only to release the one we all wanted later with Deep Six. Again....won't buy either one....period. The A.W.E. that's original one that came out is FANTASTIC...but then let's make another with Leatherneck that we'll tell them is the ONLY way you Leatherneck fans can get him. WAIT, I know...we'll repaint him so that he doesn't resemble the original one at all! BRILLIANT! Please......Hasbro is running the show and the rest of us are standing around in line with our tickets punched just dying to get those next one or two cool figures that we REALLY want but that they'll package in with a bunch of junk. Tripwire anyone? Oh yeah, and that hella cool wave that he came with....I'm sorry I can't stand a repaint, wait I mean, figure in that wave and have not bought one! The Tripwire isn't even that great IMO. The 25th line, when it came back, yeah it ROCKED! You couldn't find them on the shelves because Hasbro was making close to all the right decisions. Those figures are some of the best ever and I have them proudly pinned to my wall or open on my shelves. The ones they are giving us now....those scream "doesn't anyone remember why G.I. Joe went away in the first place"? They are killing this line slowly and from what I've seen of the movie stuff, it might be DOA. If they would have been really smart, and cared for the continued succes of this line as much as the fans do.....IMO they should have ALWAYS kept the line cool with good releases and classic, always well liked, figures and then made a vow to themselves that to insure their future success they would make the movie line kick ass. What it feels like is they know we're buying just about any Joe thing we can get our hands on so they can continue stringing us along on the old/new stuff and then put out a bunch of crap for the movie line and people will still buy it or kids new to the franchise will want it because come on....their kids! Hey, the have that right...the kids that is. I too made the same mistake growing up and a perfect example of that is that I had a Chuckles figure! The nail in the coffin, before I forget and before I get to my final point is that ridiculous Rattler and Conquest repaint Target is getting. OMG that is absolutely absurd! PLEASE, collectors everywhere, DON'T BUY THAT JUNK! If I see someone has paid some outrageous amount on Ebay for one...I think I'm going to have to find you and come slap your stupid @$$! To my final point, there is a catch 22 isn't there? The continued production of the toys we want and that comes from present sales of what's available. Some people are praying before they go to bed for the Flagg to be remade (I'm not personally because I don't have an extra house to put it in, but I have a friend that is....btw it's never going to happen!) and we all know that doesn't stand a chance if they aren't making cash hand over fist on this line. That also goes for a ton of other vehicles that are some peoples fav's. Mine being the Snowcat (no, don't e-mail me about buying an old one from you)! I wonder though if we would have spat in their face when they first started screwing with us with some of the junk they've been putting out if they would have corrected the ship or just sunk the ship all together? A question we'll probably never have the answer to I suppose. Don't get me wrong, and don't take offense to some of my comments. I know some of you love all the Joe stuff, including the repaints, and I didn't mean to insinuate your a moron for buying it. To each their own, but as I read some of the posts I see people saying they were just going to buy one of each of everything and then it started to get out of control and Hasbro started letting the Cash Cow sit in on all the meetings. I'll bet for that population of collectors that if you were told the upcoming figures were say Recondo, Lifeline, Ripcord, Dial Tone, Wetsuit, Lowlight, Outback, carded Quick Kick (lets pretend Hasbro didn't package one of peoples favorite characters ONLY in a DVD pack), carded Tunnel Rat (see side note above), Footloose, carded Breaker, etc that you would still be Gung-Ho (excuse the pun and it's completely intended!) about collecting this line. To answer the question, after all that above, I'm still collecting but only very little. Eel and Zartan carded are two that I still want and I have a handful of figures I'm interested in seeing before committing to buying after looking at that list of upcomings that was posted on here the other day. I'm extremely picky right now about what I get, even though you can tell I'm pissed about what Hasbro has been trying to sell to us. I did share the enthusiasm of the rest of you when I went to the aisles in the stores and found Stalker, or Storm Shadow, etc and was ecstatic I had one to add to my collection. Now, sadly....I usually go the "starting to be figures on the pegs and vehicles on the shelves" aisles and look them over and leave them be. Hasbro needs to quit jerking us around and figure out what matters here, the collectors. If they did that...they could keep this line as one of the best ever, and keep that precious all mighty dollar rolling in to their pockets. Mark my words, the downfall has begun and it will probably be just about over as the movie toys make their debut. Peace to all. PS I reread my post and I felt like I was only bagging on what we've been given. Let me give props to Hasbro for making some awesome figs in this line. Namely the last DVD pack was freakin' great and is the ONLY CC, DUKE and Cobra Trooper (of any kind) that I have in my collection. Not to mention the Alpine figure was super sweet! As mentioned I also enjoyed the Resolute CC (although I haven't picked one up), the radioactive SE, Diver Baroness (although I sold mine, great idea though!), and even the Cobra Flint. Good ideas, and even though the Flint is just a trooper with a pop off head,...at least it's sticking to a "something new while staying within the guidelines of the source material" philosophy. I gave up on "completist collecting" once I sold most of my 25th stuff before my move. Now I only collect stuff that I want (ie - random figures here & there).
I'm only a completist when it comes to Destro/IG/MARS stuff...which is why this movie is gonna friggin' kill me. |

Yeah, I hardly look for figures at all anymore. Though I will pick up tunnel rat and shockwave(blast) when I see them at stores. I don't really look forward to the movie stuff, but as far as 25th I do look forward to zap, outback, starto viper, the 5 packs for the awesome snake-eyes,viper,shipwreck,and flint, and this new roadblock...who I hope is re-tooled because the orginal needed work. Besides that I'm done unless they bring out retooled and better versions of gung-ho,roadblock,scarlet,grunt,and breaker.

At $8 a pop to get repaints like the PP Crimson Guard single-carded, I'll bite so I don't have holes in my 25th collection... I have yet to open any Python Patrol figures, and I don't plan on it... The only reason I opened TF Duke and Flint was to steal their parts for customs or to improve the regular, previous versions of themselves...
The "new" Target Exclusive® jets coming out are a tad much at $25+... I don't have room to open the first versions, and I really don't like PP or TF, so I may very well skip a retail release for once... Those jets are pushing the repaints a tad far, if you ask me... I'd honestly rather have a PP Viper single-carded so the other weirdo PP troops don't stick out like a sore thumb, so I may custom card one, but dammit, I didn't like them when they first came out, and I doubt I'll like the 25th updates. |

Nah. They're completely different lines. The Resolute line is for the new cartoon that's coming out and has nothing to do with the modern era (classic) figures we've been given to date. You can make them part of your modern era line if you want but, in reality, they are a different line of Joes like VvV, Spytroops and Sigma 6 were different lines.
