I had to admit that I may now have to. Actually, looking more like I have to.
I own a communications business and a lot of my clientele cut down their advertising and marketing budget or went out of business. Also, advertisers are paying late or not paying at all.
2008 was my worst in my seven years of having a business but 2009... you can tell by the massive layoffs and corporate restructuring across the US that even though we are in January, we are going to see another tough year.
I've seen my income now cut nearly 70% and it's not looking pretty right now. Priority is taking care of the wife, my son and getting the bills paid. Whatever extra will need to go back into my emergency fund which I usually try to get 3-6 months ahead of but is now depleting itself.
So, I may be throwing in the towel with the current modern line for now and will probably need to catch up via e-bay in the future.

I have definitely cut back on the amount I buy - only getting what I really want - but I'm still fairly into it. My focus has switched from buying everything to trying to get what I want to look more like I want. All the energy I expended on hunting I put now into customizing.

Just about done I think. Not by choice though. I got laid off n November and me and my family just needed to cut back. I'm sure I'll get back into it as soon as I get a job again.

Well I just haven't been able to find the things I need. I'm not a completest but I will get the figs and vehicles I want.
However, I have a lot of ideas for customs so I will be buying more figs to make those.

I've cut back. I'm probably somewhere in the middle now. I need a few individual figues for customs, but I am definitely not buying as much as I used to. I also am getting a few more Star Wars things right now, so that's is taking some of my Joe money. I am just focusing on trying to get out of debt this year as much as possible, minus mortgage and car loans, so I won't be going all in like I did last year.

Oh and I'd bet money that if they only produced one or two legacy line figures per wave, instead of the 5 or 6 they're producing now, they'd figure out a way to box them up and send them out in the clone wars cases. They would not continue sending them out in their own waves as that wouldn't be cost efficient.

I've been thinking about this for a while now. I think I'm almost done... here's why:
1. Futility. It's almost impossible to find things at retail unless I get really lucky. I am living outside of the city now - fewer places to look, and more gas to get to them. I've been buying online for a year or so now since that's the only reliable way. It's a lot less fun and shipping and tax on shipping makes everything that much more expensive.
2. Money. Details aside, this has been a rough year and it's not getting any better. Today I canceled all remaining pre-orders at BBTS (including the much ballyhooed masterpiece Grimlock...<weeping silently at losing that one>)
3. Space. I have pretty much run out of what was a limited resource in the first place.
4. Attention Span. Resolute is all well and good, but we haven't even got the animation yet so why care? The movie is a whole different thing so I doubt I'll get the toys even if I like the film. Hasbro seems determined to not produce a Lowlight. He's the one I've wanted the most since this 25th started.
I'm not giving up on collecting. I'm not selling stuff off. I love the stuff I have. The Skyhawk and Rattler have been on my wish list for a very long time! But I am going to have to be really selective about what I buy from now on. What's the cliche? "The thrill is gone..."

I only get the figures I think would either look good in a battle display, or ones I think will be worth a lot in 30 years (exclusives mostly). Other than that, I'm not really that into a lot of the figures I see today (except Resolutes).
