First of all, howdy to my fellow Joe Fans.
I just started collecting... the temptation of going into the Joe aisle to look at all the nice new 3 3/4 figures was just too much. My question is, what do you guys do with your figures? Do you open them up and 'play' with them? I know I opened up mine and posed them and such.... but is this a big 'sin' for collecting? I'm just sort of curious. Also, I hear talk of variants and rarer figures... how do I know if something is more rare than something else (other than if there's a billion of them on the pegs, i.e. Cobra Flint)? Thanks! Yo Joe! |

hey and welcome to the tank! it is great to have another joe collector on board. to answer your questions about collecting, some of us here open are figs and some of us dont, that desicion is up to you. some buy 2 of the same figure, one to keep moc and one to keep loose. it all depends on the collector. and some poeple like to make their own custom joes.
anyway the tank is a great place for you to get started, lots of awsome people on here will help you out and fill you in. as far as varients go, the only ones that come to mind right now are the yellow stalker, snake eyes with black timber, black headed destro, and the clear transparent wraith. you can check out Yo Joe! | The 3 3/4" G.I. Joe Collector's Site — With Daily G.I. Joe News and Discussions and im pretty sure they list every figure that has been released.

I got the original carded 25th logoed foiled in 2 pairs (1 to pose, 1 to keep carded), and several of the last few runs of 2008. If i keep that up I will run outta of wall space (however it is very intersting wall paper) to hang them. So I have mainly moved into buying 1 to open and pose in several shelf systems or Cabinets I am working with to display them for my own viewing pleasure (LOL no one is going to come over and look at em but me).
I stoppe dmainly beacuse I think A lot of the newer figures are going to start follwoing the resolute and or Rise of CObra logoing which I despise greatly and is a throw off to my wall scheme of things of how I wanted to envision continuing on with them. If they has just chnaged the small 25th logo/comic edition/cartoon edition little tables on the upper right hand corner of each card, that woul dhave been berable, but the cards will be to stark in differences to keep that up now. So I am sticking with the orignal 2007-2008 figures for on the wall on the card moutning purposes. Don't have to open em to play with them, they are just a lot of fun to actually see outside the package and to have in groups and pose them up for great displaying potential if that si what your after. I see it to often figures are put in dark closets to rot for eternity, I like to see em! |

Hey man, welcome to the Tank. And to the rabbit hole of Joe collecting. I personally think the 25th figures are just way too cool to leave MOC (Mint On Card), I open and display them all. If I had more money, I'd definitely get 2 of each, one to keep MOC and one to display. The card art is just amazing. As it is, I just slice the bubble, leaving the glued part and keep the full cardbacks. There's nothing like looking over at your shelf/display case/dresser/whatever and seeing your Cobra legions standing at the ready, with the Joes on the other side, ready to defend the world from their evil reign. So enjoy the site, have a look at everyone's customs (We have some unbelievable artists here), learn some things and have fun!
As for rare figures, you'll pick up what they are just by talking with people, looking at the Buy Sell Trade lists is a big help. Generally, the more expensive it is, the rarer it is. Yojoe.com has an excellent database of figures, spend some time over there to familiarize yourself with the vast, vast amount of figures that are out there. Yo Joe! |

I collect MOC and loose (1 of each). It's a little more expensive, but I open whatever I want to and put the rest on diplay in star cases.
It's your stuff, do what makes you happiest.

Collecting Gi joe is an addictive hobby trust me ,it is so tempting to splurge and buy everything at once ,but remember BUY WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD ,no sense in racking up huge debt .If you are running short on cash for stuff ,wait until next pay period or the following month ,no sense in having the stuff if you got no food in the fridge and a huge credit card bill ?I'm not into the new toys ,i prefer the 80's stuff myself ,all of my collection is loose and on display .
Good luck with you hunt . |

If you don't really care about the "silver" card, you picked a good time to get into Joes. With older product on the pegs, you'll pretty much be able to complete almost an entire collection.
